SHIFTERS w/o BOoTs..

Weird...I didn't start this thread. Well who uses the shifter without a boot? I use an aluminum knob that matches the shifter bar and the rubber boots seem to keep the heat out fine enough.

I got no boot.. looked old and worn etc.. I like it without it anyways..

p.s. i dont think a shifter boot would stop heat if it was on there or not..

No but the rubber boots will.

Actually I can tell you from first-hand experience that it keeps more heat out than you'd think. Try going a summer with no AC and no boot. Feels like a heater blasting through that opening. Hell, it's right above the exhaust. The rubber blocks A LOT of heat or cold, and the boot helps to seal out these extremes.

what does the rubber boot do

Does the rubber shifter boot do anything besides keep out heat and cold? I'm wondering because i know my rubber boots are melted(was that way when i bought the car ~1000 miles ago). I know i should replace them but i'm working on other things and could use the money. If it does more than keep out heat/cold i'll leave it on the bottom of the list, but should i place more importance on it?
