shifter bushings

Is it hard to change them or relativly easy? Thanks

Relativly easy.

All you need to do is remove the shifter knob, which requires an open end wrench. Then remove the boot with the plastic surround. Then the other boots. You'll have three screws that hold the shifter to the tranny. The two bushing will be on both sides of the ball from the shifter. That is it, and you will notice a lovely difference. :)

I've done this procedure about 8 times now so its about the only thing I am an expert at lol. It really isn't to bad. Just follow the directions above, or go to f3sc.org and they have pics for the procedure

Mazdatrix also has an excellent how-to. This is a very easy job.

As a rule of thumb you may wish to replace the inner shifter boot at the same time.

By the time the bushings are shot, the inner boot is on it's last legs as well.

Don't bother replacing the inner shifter boot - it will rip the first time you go into reverse - went through three of them in a week before I gave up - crappy Mazda parts!

If you went through three of them in a week, something was not installed correctly. From the factory they will often go 80K miles without any problems.

new shifter boot needed

I am going to replace the shifter bushings today, but I need the outer shifter boot also, cuz it was ripped when I bought it. I am new to this world of working on my own car, so I don't know where to go for parts. Where would I go to find the manufacturer boot? Thanks..

if you need new boots shifter and or ebrake i HIGHLY suggest researcher in the parts for sale section if they are still on sale 50 dollars for both high quality leather and i got double color stiching for free it looks awsome and the fitment would have been great if a couple of stinkin pegs weren't broken off of my mounting plate but that's my deal. any way check out his web page there is a link on the post

You are talking about the cosmetic boot around the shifter right? Not the outer rubber boots under the shifter/ center consol on the actual spot where the tranny comes up.

Not item J (which is the outer boots for a FC) :http://www.mazdatrix.com/pictures/g4.jpg

Ebay always has the vinyl boots. Mazdatrix is often cheaper than the dealer for OEM parts.
