shift return lever spring?

I'm new to rx7's

I have a problem with my shifter. The shifter in its regular position in nuetral (between 3rd/4th gear)doesnt take much resistance as i move the shifter to the left (1st/2nd gear) and it doesnt push hard/fast enough into normal position like it does from normal position to the right (5th/reverse)

My question is,: is there a spring or something I can replace to fix this? I have a problem shifting into 3rd gear, and shifting is very sloppy in this car. If so where can i get these parts? Thanks

i believe there is a small shifter bushing that is probably work out, it should be fairly inexpensive at your local auto parts store. Also search some on this topic as i have seen it cover several times.

sounds more like a bushing problem im working on that but my problem was there was too much play when im in any gear. also on your shifter there is a slot on you pinion ball on the shifter where a rod/pin slides into. what could have hapened is that the rod/pin could have gotten pushed back and is causing your shifter to turn. this has hapened to me. its an easy fix if the rod is pushed back but if its a bushing i would go to www.victoriabritsh.com and order a catalog. the catalogs are free and they are nice people.

Pull your shifter out and look in the hole. The should be a wire that looks like 1/2 of a paper clip, over the hole that the lower ball of the shifter sits in. If it is not there, then it has broken. They are a pita to change out. If it doesn't bother you much, don't worry about it. It's main function is to center the shifter and make it more difficult to get into the right hand gate.

If you do decide to replace it, get your hands on the transmission section of the FSM and read thoroughly.

On mr2's someone made custom brass bushings.. Are ours ruber? can I replace mine with a brass or solid bushing for more accurrate faster shifting?
