that's the thermoswitch. what the hell does it do? how important is it? in the FSM it says "thermoswitch connector A/T" what does the AT mean? mine broke and I'm wondering if this is gonna kill me or not.

i hope that is the back of a water pump housing, otherwise disregard ^^^^

Unless I read the picture in the fsm wrong, the thermoswitch in the picture has no wires on it. The picture shows a harness connecting to the thermoswitch much like the water thermo sensor does. AT is automatic transmission. In other words, the fsm indicates there are no wires as part of the switch itself.

Anyone have one of these switches on the back of your series five WITH a short harness lead like the one in the jpg in my first post?

jdm waterpump housing? if so it the temp switch that is on am spec rads.

i have a Jspec housing. my housing has a green connector (thermosensor) and a black connector (thermoswitch) but the plug I have does not have two wires, only one.

I was changing my water pump today, my housing came loos so it took it off. I broke the wire on the back of the black sensor. how important is that sensor? i have a manual tranny soo... do i not need the black connector? it's freakin me out b/c i dont want to run into problems. do either of you know?

I think its for the automatic transmission since it has two wires. Plus the parts fische calls out a different number for that sensor for cars that have automatic transmissions. One number for the non auto....another number for the autotransmission cars. I think the non auto have but one wire and its a aux fan switch. For the autos its a temp switch for the ECAT for the auto transmission. I can't prove it though.

it seems like that switch is not necessary, is it? i broke that switch while working on my car today. i dont have any fans other than the radiator fan. do you think i'll be ok without it? i have to put it back together tommorow and I"m wondering if I can do without that switch. any help would be appreciated

There's no such thing as a "JDM" water pump housing. The temp switch you're referring to is a totally different item fitted to S4's only as part of the emission controls.

HAILERS, you're confusing everyone. Again. ;) The question being asked is whether or not the arrowed sensor is a genuine S5 temp switch. We've already established in another thread that the pump is an S4 one with a mystery sensor fitted into the location used on S5's for the aux e-fan temp switch. The picture of the S5 temp switch in the FSM looks different to that one. It has an oval connector on the back with no wires.

Just for clarification, there are two different water pump Housings for a series four. Guess why two numbers? Because one the back there are two sensor holes for the automatic version.
