Series 4 exterior to Series 5
Has anyone upgraded thier exterior to series 5 (89-91)? I'm planning on replacing the front bumper and rear on my 88 along with the moulding. How exactly to I get the front and rear bumper off without breaking anything?

Hey TPDNRX7, make a post to let us know how it went when you are done. I want to do the same thing.

The nose, bumper, TII side mirrors, TII wing, and round tail lights should fit, but you may have to shave, add spacers, or make/reallign bolt holes.
Are you planning to add either of the OEM bodykits as well (Areo A or Areo B pacages). That includes the side skirts (2 pieces per side), front lip (1 piece or 3 piece options), etc.. Note I'd go find the OEM Areo B package because it's a bit more agressive and allot cheaper. The OEM kits for the 86-88 years are getting expensive !! Mazdatrix or similar sells the B kit I believe for a bit cheaper. Note the 86-88's required a rubber ribbon spacers between the nose and body whereas the 89-92's didn't (although I added the ribbon on my 1991 TII as the 89 replacement nose wouldn't line up right). The front nose comes off with 3 bolts/side in the front accessible through the front wheel wells, 1 bolt/side in the corner panel (accessible from the front through the popped-up light holes), and several bolts on the top. Slides off nice-n-eazy after that. Haven't done the rears, but I'm sure it's easier :) I'd also recommend ordering the Moonroof wind guard. It really looks sweet and enhances the lines of the car :) |
