Sensor on goose/filler neck
Ok guy I am changing my pump right now but I was inspecting my housing were the pump goes in and it is a bit corroded....so....i go to my parts car and pull the other on out of the hatch and it is in better condition than the one that was on my car :) i.e. no corrosion.
My question is, on my filler neck there is a place that has like a hole in it but it is sealed off but on the parts car one ther eis a sensor in that spot what is it do i need it and will i need to hook it up to my harness? Mine is from an 87 Sport and the spare is from an 88 GXL if that helps any. Thanks Santiago |
The sensor is for an E-fan. Some cars came equipped (such as mine) with this sensor, and the associated electric fan. If your car doesnt have a fan, dont worry about it. The sensor wont affect anything.

could you use this for an external water temp gauge or do you think it wouldnt hit the coolant enough????
|
could I put the fan on from my 88? would that help any?
|
BTW
is it ok to use that permatex gasket remover stuff on the filler neck? the previous owner used RTV to hold the gasket and it is being e bitch to take off. Santiago |
Yeap that works great a razor blade would be better.

No i mean take that shit out and put the one supplied with the gauge in there...my main concern is that it will not hit the water enough...im running without a thermostat in the summer time
|
If the water doesn't hit the sensor then you've got air in the system, which is bad. If the system's properly bled it'll work fine, otherwise Mazda wouldn't have put it there. ;)
The only downside to this location is the sensor won't see water flow until the thermostat opens, so it won't read acurately until the engine warms up. No big deal. |
My 86 GXL does not have that sensor on the filler neck, and it had A/C stock. I was also wondering what the point of that sensor was, because about half of the FCs Ive seen havent had it, and 1/2 did..

how do I find out if I have a e-fan? I have the sensor but not sure about the fan.
|
it is infront of the a/c condesor
