Sensor: below oil filter\above front leading sparkplug

Ok, so i'm prepping the MT wiring n **** today, ran in to 2 plugs i can't figur out wtf it's for. My MT diagrams doesn't use it it, so i'm assuming it's not needed. But it's kinda driving me nuts wanting to know for sure what they are. The FSM\parts catalogue doesn't really show it clearly.

First off, it's the sensor that's located right under the oil filter. FSM says Pressure regulator??? I'm assuming this is the oil pressure sensor? If so, does anyone know if the signal is readable by the gauge if i run this directly to the gauge? (Same goes with the coolant temp sensor, am i able to splice it and run it directly to the gauge cluster? making it readable obviousely)

2nd, a sensor right above the front leading spark plug. It's kinda big. I'm throwing a wild guess that this is the knock sensor? if not what is it?
If it is a knock sensor, anyone know if it's possible to hook it up to a light or something with out getting one of those pricey knock sensor display unit?

tia

Is it by chance the oil pressure sensor?

awesome. just as i thought. Had a much bette rlook at it yesterday and noticed the regulator kinda looking thing lol. couldn't feel it in the dark

anyone know about the other one? I made a typo, i meant on top of the trailing front spark plug. It looks like a knock sensor from my guess, it's right by the crank angle sensor. Any one kind enough to tell me?

does anyone know what size thread the sender uses, is it 1/8"? nice according to that pic the temp gauge sensor is right there too. Now I know where I can put my new sensor for the new water temp gauge I bought, thanx NZ.

Sorry I missed the second bit; it is the knock sensor.

For the record, this information is available in the Factory Service Manual. You can download a copy by following the links in the FAQ. The manual is the most important piece of literature you can have when repairing these cars.

I spend about an hour and a half looking for the diagrams in the wiring section. It was way too blurry to see anything. Plus i could only see the NA diagrams, it didn't show a turbo engine wiring diagram for some reason.

hmmmmm...so could these gauges be connected to the gauge cluster directly?
At work right now, i'll try to solve that tonight. Hopefully i can hook the knock sensor up to like a LED or something to show me when it's knocking. Microtech ecu doesn't have a knock sensor pin\wire

Page F2-82 of the FSM Fuel Systems chapter clearly shows the knock sensor.

sometimes the manual links are screwy, the n/a engines sometimes were equipped with knock sensors but did not even utilize it, the turbo engines were the only ones that even had a knock box. the S4 knock sensor was threaded into the front of the middle iron and the S5 was threaded into the front rotor housing above the trailing spark plug.

There is no knock sensor shown in the NA wiring diagrams. It never came with one. Ever.

Although you never told us important info like what year your car is (hint, hint), if the knock sensor is on the front rotor housing then you have an 89-91 S5. It sounds like you're looking in the S4 manual, which is the wrong one. Click here and download the right one. Click here for the S5 wiring diagrams.

see, this is why i hate my car. It's a japanese engine, and it has BOTH feature of the S4 and S5 in random places. Some of the engine parts shows signs S5, but the ecu is a N332, and from what i understand, it's a 87 turbo ecu. sigh

while we're here, can anyone confirm that japanese 13bt comes with features of S4 and S5? cuz this **** seriousely gives me headache sometime.

I got the GXL with the turbo engine installed and running, and the previouse owner seems to have just paid a shop to do it without any knowledge of what's in it.
i mean hell, when i popped the upper intake manifold off, it has a 86-88 gasket on it.
