Yo,
Good luck bro, those 944's are great. Some would say the FC has a slight resemblence to them. *cough* Anyways, make sure the timing belt/water pump/clutch thing has been taken care of. I hear it's like 3 grand or something. Just wanted to warn you that they're expensive for maintenence compared to the FC. I'm sure ya know that, but just FYI. Let us know how the 2 compare for handling, braking, build quality, etc! KS 1989 GTUs "Mazda's answer to the 944S2." |
I am interested as well.
What is your asking price? What condition is your RX-7 in? Pete |
Man please don't!! I love Porsche but there is not that much of a difference between your car and a 944NA!
Good Luck though :) |
What trim level of 944? S? Turbo? Auto or stick?
They are nice cars... I looked at a few myself but didn't quite find the "right" one. The closest was a mint condition 88 turbo, but it had a freakin automatic!! No WAY was I going to get a Porsche that I keep for the rest of life with a slushbox!! That was a while ago.... before I went back to school and began living on an Ethiopian budget again! I am glad now I didn't invest that kind of green into a car.... School would have been compromised! |
Your not swinging the other way are you?
|
944's are nice...
NICE FOR LUNCH MUUAHAHAHA j/k man, good luck with it, get a turbo if possible :) |

1989 GTUs "Mazda's answer to the 944S2." [/B][/QUOTE] Get real the GTUs numbers would not come close to a turbo 944 (S2). I have the 1989 road and track right here with the test. |
Seems like a lot of people are ditching their 7s.
Just out of interest, how close was the GTUs to the 944 S2? I'm interested if they had a track lapping time. Wouldn't the TII be a more suitable comparison to the S2? |
Yo,
*snicker* Yeah, I ain't too serious with that comparo. I actually LOVE the 944S2, since it's all about the NA power. Didn't it put out like 200ish HP outta a giant 3.0l four banger? That'd chew up my car, no prob. I think the GTUs and the 944S2 are simular in spirit: no forced induction sports cars. Probably the GTUs has a little harder edge with its lack of amenities. Yo,
That's what I meant by the resemblence comment. The S2 was a special edition of the 944 with a lot of the turbo goodies, but normally aspirated. It has a big 'ol motor. KS 1989 GTUs "IMSA Dominator." |
ALL S2s had the 3 liter
944 S2 and the GTUs are similar cars I think an S2 would eat a GTUs alive tho... they were alot more expensive and I haven't been in anything that would outhandle or outstop a 944 in all my life :) 944 S2 has 208 N/A HP. WAY more than a GTUs.. even more than a turbo BUT... he's talking about a normal, 1984 944... 150HP. Still pretty respectable for a 18 year old 4 banger... they're not fast from a stop, but pretty aerodynamic.. past 100MPH they are pretty quick, and I don't care what people say, they'll do 150MPH stock. |
Yo,
Oh, I ain't sayin' I could take an S2. I think back in the day they cost like twice on what a GTUs would cost: 20K vs. 40K. I think they're simular in spirit: Lots of the Turbo equipment, but no turbo. Anyone know how much they weigh? KS 1989 GTUs "I totally wanted an S2 when I was in Highschool." |
I've considered this several times, too. The 944's are the most under-rated Porsche there is. However, the N/A (even the S2's) don't go very hard compared to a TII, the aerodynamics on the 'verts suck compared to a S4/S5 Mazda, and they are much more expensive to maintain.
The bottom line is you are paying big dollars for a badge IMHO.... |
welcome to the boinger club. My DSM has provided me with as much trasportation this year as my 7(RIP) did its last 18 months of life.
|
the S2's weigh around 2600-2700lb (1989 weighs 2630)
not all that light 1989s are the lightest a 1990 convertable would be the heaviest, at 2860 |
To hell with an NA 944. Has to be a turbo.
|
Bro, if your gonna get a 944 than make sure the car has maintenace records..I gave up 7's for a 1989 944 which i have now..this was the only year of the 944 that has a 2.7 liter engine, which up to this day hauls major ass..It will definitly put a smile on your face, good luck with it..:D
