even though my car did not come with power locks, can i still put power locks?

Power lock (not locks) came as an option on some models. It was a follow me system, with the passengers door locking from a switch on the drivers door latch. There is not any factory power lock in the drivers door on an RX-7.

Yes, you can add aftermarket power locks to any car.

And the same with an aftermarket security system. An aftermarket security system can be added to any car.

87 is really easy to do if it had the factory alarm option. You can just cut the wires from the factory alarm box under the glove box, and wire in an after market alarm. If you can wire up a stereo you can do this without too much more learning.

Power locks just have an actuator in the door that moves the bar to lock and unlock the door. I recomend spal but they cost a bit more. Adding this to your aftermarket alarm gets a little trickier, if the alarm doesn't have built in relays.

Just get some door lock actuators and a decent alarm or keyless entry. I recommend DEI stuff personally, it's what I install at the shop all the time. It works and has excellent support. Actuators should run you $40 a piece, and if you can find a independant stereo shop, they probably have some cheaper ones.

You'll have to use some relays to get the actuators working, which isn't too bad. If you can get a 451m, please do, it makes life way easier. When I worked at Circuit a while back, I had like 15 of these that I never used and stockpiled, since they came out of some remote starts as extra parts. So just take a chance and go ask one of the guys if they have some laying around, if it was me I'd give you one. If not, I think DEI sells them for like $10, but two relays does the job either way.

As far as alarms go, go ahead a spend a little extra money for a decent unit. Don't skimp out and buy a bargain bin piece, because it will just end up pissing you off. Go with any one of DEI's brands (Python, Hornet, Viper, Clifford, etc.), because they are all the same. They work well, and actually have a lifetime guarantee! I'd stay away from CODE Alarms. I installed a few of those, and they are big pieces of garbage. I've had a limited experience with CompuStar also, and I am not a fan. DEI's stuff is easy to use and install, and just works.

it's to bad, code used to make the shit back in the day, alpine too. My alpine 8081 is still the best on the market, cant buy it, but it beats the hell outa most of the newer stuff.

Definatly get one with built in relays! its true you only need two relays to wire it up but it is so conveniant to have them built in.

Go to a junk yard and get a door lock actuator from the pass side. The driver’s door already has holes to mount the stock actuator. You will have to mod the rod to fit the opposite side; it’s not hard to do.

I say go with crimestoper alarm, i have one that has remote start, code hopping, carjack protection and even a dual zone protection, what this does, if you leave the sunroof open, and someone sticks their hand inside, it sences the shift in the air, and the alarm goes off. I added door actuators which I got from ebay for 25.00 for 2, and bamn, i got power dorr locks all around and never have to use the key again. i love a keyless FC lol

It depends on how elaborate you get. I installed a Marksman M5 three channel. Alarms on hood, trunk, doors, and shock alarm. Remote doors and trunk. The original interior door lock switches still function. The car had the factory alarm, that no longer functioned. Anyone who says it is an easy job just hasn't done it. I purchased a used right door solenoid on ebay for $5 plus shipping.
First and foremost you need a wiring diagram, and know how to use it. You must also have some ability to fabricate some parts. Using existing wiring from alarm door/trunk key switches saves you a lot of fishing wires. I,m over 70 and bending under a dash ain't as easy as it used to be. You will spend a lot of time working in that area. The left side kick pannel is a mess of wiring. The alarm unit is held under the dash with Velcro. It hasn't fallen off.
