secondy fuel rail?

on my secondy fuel rail at the end is what i believe to be the pulseation damper, but whatever it is, it was rattleing. I noticed the plastic cap on it was cracked so i removed it. inside was a screw with a little o ring on it. what does that screw do? does it control flow or just the meir task of holding the thing togeather?

its not the pulsation damper, thats on the primary rail. Thats the fuel pressure regulator. If it were my car, id buy a new regulator after the cap broke off.

the factory service manual says its the pulsation damper, it is the one on the little fuel rail that attaches to the intermeidite housing.

If it is the PD, that's the primary rail. sits under your manifold.
On the 86-88 cars, there is a little plastic cap that you can take off on the primary rail. Usually the screw is rattling around in there. Do not glue it back in, do not put it back in, get a NEW PD for your 88 or upgrade to the 89+ PD. This is a fire hazard as that screw interacts with the rubber diaphragm which may or may not be torn. It will start to spew gasoline on your manifold. There has been much written on the fire hazards of this piece. If you choose to disregard all the advice you will get, at least buy a fire extinguisher. You'll need it along with quick release seatbelts or a Nomex flight suit!
Some suggest buying a banjo bolt to put in there to eliminate the PD. The counter argument is that the bolt interferes with the smoothing out of the pulses. Whatever the case is, the correct/preferred fix is a another PD, new or used and the way to go is from the 89+ cars.
You will need a shorter bolt for the hole closest to the firewall and you'll be able to use the shorter bolt coming off your broken PD that mounts it. don't forget to keep track of that little washer beneath the PD. You'll need it.
Replace your old fuel lines with new High Pressure fuel injection lines, regular fuel line will rupture; have your injectors cleaned if you haven't done that by a company that will replace all the rubber o-rings and the filter inside the injector. Marren Motorsports out of CT is one such company.

The little fuel rail is the primary. The longer one on top is the secondary.
