Second gen vs. 96 Mustang GT

Well, last night von lost to a 96-98 Mustang GT (modded). Anyways, we had a big argument over the stock numbers for a 96 Mustang GT. I know they have 225hp and around 260 TQ. Anyways, 1/4mile what do these things run STOCK. I said 15.4, he seems to think 14.6. I know that Im right but someone tell this idiot what they run BONE STOCK please.....I know it isn't no 14.6 HA, 14s is laughable for that year as a stock car. Seen Type Rs beat them in the 1/4 stock, GSTs beat them so what is it 15.4 or 14.6?!?!?!?

biorotary 05-15-02 04:58 PM

your right...the 96-98 stock stang gt runs 15.4-15.2

dre_2ooo 05-15-02 05:21 PM

15.4 sounds more reasonable. I ran one once and he won by a hood. This was before i ported my intakes :D. And my car being a 16.0 STOCK car, with BPU i'm sure it was only like 15.7-15.8. But now i'm in the mid 15's fo sho'. DRIVER SKILL BABY.

They say 15.1-15.2.

I'd say 5 speed coupe on average around 15 flat with some in the high 14's

From personal experience, and my knowledge of the stang croud, I would have to say 15.1-.2 would be a decent driver. Any good driver could get it into the 14's stock. I had 2 friends with 98's, and they both ran 14.6 stock. Remember though, this is with runnin the living crap out of the car......so......I think they are definately beatable by an N/A FC, just that the rex needs a few mods.

I saw an automatic '97 Mustang GT pull 16.3's consistantly one night. I beat one in my car .... 3 times.

Mustangs are pretty good off the line, and they make it tough if dashing through ftaffic to catch up because they can just mash the pedal at any RPM and go.... we are too busy shifting...
I'm always tied off the line, through 1st, but then bake them like crazy once 1halfway through 2nd gear, and my car runs mid to low 14's... (best guess anyways, could be faster but I can only back up mid-low 14's on paper!- before exhuast and S-AFC)
G-teched 13.8, a few days ago, but I don't trust those things, since I tested side-by side with a buddies tricked out Civic that I only beat by a car length once the 1/4 gtech run was done... and he read 14.5 or so...
So my guess is the new stlye GT's (STOCK) are about 15 flat.
Convertibles are a bit slower, so are the autos.... and the damn tweaked Cobras are FAST! (High 13's for sure...)
I am in the Mustang Capitol of the World... Windsor, Ontario.

the newer 99+ GT's are WAY faster than 15 flat. Even an auto is 14.4-.5 car. The 5 speeds are a 14 flat car with a good driver. They are strong, my brother in law has one.

gsracer 05-15-02 10:29 PM

geez what elevation are you at? The new GT's (99+) run low low 14's stock. Cobras are easy mid 13's, The IRS doesn't like hard launches or drag in particular. The new Mach I which is basically a cobra with a solid rear axle ran a 12.97 with only drag radials by one of the stang maggazines. :)

nitroracer 05-15-02 11:51 PM

i raced one today...it was fully stock and i was keeping up with it...we were doin light to light back and forth i think i can beat him..

von 05-16-02 12:38 AM

Alright Nitro..Good run... Heres how my race went with my decent launch...Even on my shitty launch until I feathered the throttle due to wheel spin..Then he got a car on me through first. In second another car but in third it stayed and i cought up a little but we shut off when he was only 1.5 cars ahead and not even done with third gear...with a good launch and 0-100 I can definatly take him im wiling to put money on it. He wasnt stock remember rex so if he can do a 15 flat than hes capable of high 14s with his exaust and whatever else he probly had. I also had a bad exaust leak that didnt help. If someone can back me up with thier own personal expieriences with this go ahead...A nut is completly off one of the flanges... 1 nut holding it...this simulates a bigger exaust like 3 inches or something it feelz like.

von 05-16-02 12:40 AM

By the way...does anyone have a blitz boost controler and can share their expieriences with it.

bluedogok 05-18-02 05:36 PM

Most of it is drivers ability. I used to be able to beat Corvettes all the time in a 86 944turbo, unless the driver knew what he was doing, then his sheer torque would take over, but I could hang right with them.
But I also grew up racing a 71 Ranchero GT with a 351-HO in high school and did not lose many races in that. The biggest problem that I had with that is traction off the line, learning your car is the best improvement you can make.
