seat track disassembly

i read another thread that someone disassembled his tracks (separated the sliding mechanism) and it got ruined. can there be a way to take it apart w/o ruining them? has anyone else separated them? reason why i'm asking is i bought aftermarket seats and i would like to swap the brackets that screw on to the seats to work with the brackets that hold the seat down to the car

thanks

better to make an adapter plate of 16 ga. steel. If you get me measurements hole to hole of RX bracket and hole to hole of seat. I will fab them up for you, you cover shipping. If you asked two weeks ago I could have delivered them to you.

my timing sux sometimes. even worse is i'm broke at the moment. but i'll take the measurement and i'll shoot you a pm next week. so i guess there's no luck with separating the track?

Never tried but if you have only found negative things about it then this is the better route and like I said all it will cost you is shipping.

I would also nee to know where you want the front bolt of the seat in relation to the front bolt of the rail (moving the seat either forward, back, or same distance from pedals as stock)

figured it out (at least the driver's side)

well being bored at home, i contemplated on how i could install the seat with using the stock tracks. i measured the holes for both tracks and i come to find out that i could use the last hole on the stock track (the square one) and all i had to do was make it 1/4" longer to fit. so i busted out my dremel, and 3 grinding stones later, i got it to fit perfectly. here are some pics:

here it is off the car

here it is installed:

here's where i dremeled the hole - it was the square one:

i was really surprised that it fit flushed like stock instead of worring whether it'll be too wide or narrow. i just hope the passenger seat is the same way but if not, i will be calling you tinvestor.

nice I hope everything goes well but if not I am here.

How is your seating position copared to stock? In the couple cars that I have put aftermarket seats in, the seating position after was uncomfortably higher.

TitosToy 07-13-06 06:08 AM

hey ck, yes the seating position is a little higher. it's not really that bad except when i brake. so what i do to compensate is slouch down in a recliner position. you'll get used to it.

here's an update:

i got half the bracket on the passenger seat and when i test fit it, i come to realize i'm gonna need an adapter plate. i eyeballed the angle and it seems like it's 5-9 degrees off. tinvestor, as soon as i get some measurements i'll pm you ok? nonethe less i have installed with one bracket cuz i got a lil tired of only having one seat. looks better with 2 and i'm the only one that rides it so....

here's a pic. hope you like:

p.s....they feel great!!!

tinvestor 07-14-06 05:58 PM

just let me know. I nee to know how wide to make the piece and make sure it is wide enough that I can bend you a 90 degree angle on it about 1/2" for extra strength. of course the length is needed too. You might want two sets so that you can get that drivers seat off of the spacers.
