Seafoam!!
 

so i have an s5 na that i want to seafoam.(what seafoam is a product that cleans up the valves and lifters on a car and take away the carbon build up there more to it but i am not going to get specific) and yes i know ROTARIES DONT HAVE valves and lifters i just want to know if it would be good to do for the fact that my motor has 150xxx and it has never been rebuilt as far as i know. i want to do it to clean up the rotors of the common carbon build up. and also has any one in the forum done it to there cars and what where the results

i would not use seafoam due to that i have see the stuff kill engines. try looking for the were you would run water and it steam cleans the engine. it what some of the local rotary guys do.

i have personally used SeaFoam and it blew my engine 30min after using i do not recommend!

How could using seafoam on your engine have anything to do with blowing your engine? Unless a huge piece of carbon broke off or you dumped the whole bottle in and hydrolically locked it.:scratch:

It could have blown it from there being a piece of carbon getting lose then breaking a seal, or if the carbon was the only thing keeping compression in the engine - if it gets lose then there's no more compression.

Get a hold of some BG44K. That stuff is WAY better than seafoam. I used it in my motorcycle, looked in at the piston at TDC through the spark plug hole before + after. There was quite a bit of difference. But you don't get the awesome smoke show, but all you have to do is flood it for that ;)

and the plus is that it cleans all of the fuel system. just put it in at ur next fill up.

well i really dont care about the smoke i just want to do an internal clean and if what you said is better then i will use it thanks guys for the advice.

how did you use it? most people that I've seen that have had issues with seafoam have just used it wrong.

i used it sucking it threw a vacuum hose into the motor... honestly motor after i tore down the motor didnt look like it had any internal damage but just loss of compression

If I was you, I wouldn't bother. Really nothing to gain. Just step on the gas and redline it daily, should be fine.

Is the inside of your engine dirty or something? Mine was dirty and carboned up at 112k but it did run fine, until my coolant seal decided to go...

Just wait till it needs a rebuild to clean the inside.

bg actually has mutiple products for the fuel system, one you put in the tank, one thats supposed to go directly into the fuel rail, and the last one is sprayed into the engines intake while running at 2k rpms, ive seen good and bad results, had a car come in wouldnt run, intake was just has a ton of carbon, did a full bg fuel system clean ran like a top, did one on a grand prix, the cat melted down and the motor wouldnt run it was so bad. and i hear this from all my friends in the business ,it gets the exhaust super super hott.ill talk to the bg guy next time he comes in and see what he says

Mazda has some rotary engine cleaner that works pretty well. I've cleaned several rx8 engines and my 7 engine and I have had no problems.
