Scorching of rotor housings
 

My rotor housings have some scorching on them, as well as a little bit of chrome missing from the very edge of the front housing. I was wondering what you guys think of reusing them. I will be popping another motor soon that may have better housings I can use, but I doubt it. The motor had 86k on it when it died of coolant seal failure. I never saw more than 5/8ths gauge temp on S4.

I will have pictures of my actual housings tonight once I get my camera to my engine. I took this photo from another thread as it shows what I'm talking about. I have this type of scorching by the spark plug holes, but significantly worse. Is this something that cleans up, or is this something that destroys housings?

I will also post pictures of the edge of the housing where some of the chrome has flaked off.

I'd like to reuse them if they'll be good for even another 40-50k or so.

Those look OK to me. The scorching is caused by lack of lubrication and normal buildup.

I'll still get pictures of my actual housings up tonight. The scoring of the chrome is <1/8" band only part-way around the housing. From what I understand this is fairly common on S4, and not a big deal.

Yeah, that looks about like mine. Mine wasn't cause by lack of lube, it was caused by my seals getting so carboned up that they were locked in place.
