SCCA Improved Touring class...
 

A friend of mine and I are thinking about getting into road racing. :) My responsibility is to acquire a car, since I'll be the one driving it. He'll help with the rest of the expenses and serve as my mechanic, as well as a few other friends who are going to help.

I've gone over several other options such as the S13 240SX, Porsche 944, Civic, etc... and have come full circle back to the FC. The benefit is that I know my way around the car since I've been an n/a FC owner for a few years now.

But, despite being an FC owner I've fallen out of the loop and my knowledge of specific FC models has suffered. Hell, right now I'm not even sure what modifications I'll be allowed in the class I want to run in.

So, hopefully somebody here has some experience with this... what would be the most desireable year/model FC that I should look for?

Also, what modifications are allowed?

Okay... if nothing else can somebody tell me what cars came with the four piston front brakes and limited slip differentials?

The s4 GXL would be your best bet if you're looking for the 4 piston brakes and the LSD.

I've been looking for SCCA rules but they seem to have taken them off the net in favor of selling the damn cd. Any chance you could post a link to someone who's spilling the beans about whats on the disc?

I really don't know the rules, but I've helped a buddy a couple of times. He races in the IT class, so far I know that FC's (don't now if apply to other cars too):

- Will be able to run full custom exhaust as long as you don't break the 98DB limit (or was it 95?)

- There is a minimum weight limit, so don't bother looking for the base model.

- 16 X 7 is the maximum wheel size (at least the width)

Just get a FC with 4 pistons caliper, and without sunroof. That way you don't have to swap brake calipers, and lock down the sunroof. Don't forget the LSD diferential!!

Now I must say those damn BMW 325 do have an advantage over the FC!

Mykl, Ask this question in the Race forum and you will get a much better response. I'm thinking about doing this very same thing. In fact, I already have the car stripped, the engine ready to go in and the roll cage from Kirk racing. Shoot me a pm.
