SAMCO radiator hose kit for FC3S

I've been envious of FD's that run this kit, since SAMCO made them for the FD for several years now.
It looks like they finally made one for the FC...

Here's an eBay auction for them...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SAMCO...46079264QQrdZ1

For about $100 is not bad, since stock hoses are like $50 for the upper and lower regular rubber ones.
So once you replaced it twice, it'll be the same price - these things are supposed to outlast the car!

Hum, those are nifty....but only blue? Wonder what the special order black costs.

yusoslo 03-17-06 09:09 AM

yeah the blue makes me sad..

I dont think it will cost extra for black...at least it shouldnt. Shoot them an email and find out, I may just have to get these. But only if they come in Zebra stripes pattern!!! who hooo

I have personally thought the only colors that should be in an engine bay is black..and chrome/polished metal.

Pinfield357 03-17-06 09:13 AM

"All Samco Sport hoses are produced in a high gloss finish and are available in the standard Samco Sport blue or optional black, red, green, purple, bright yellow and orange. We only stock blue hose kit, all other colors needed to be special order"

right off the auction

SirCygnus 03-17-06 09:28 AM

well... the main problewm is the bottom ones fit, and the top ones dont. i had to cut it, and it still didnt fit. im still waiting for cork sport to send me the right ones. apparently samco messed up and made it too long. really messed up my mood.

jon88se 03-17-06 10:18 AM

These have been out for quite a while...

drago86 03-17-06 01:45 PM

AutoRND had a couple sets in black last time I was there.

TitosToy 03-17-06 03:31 PM

for a 100 bucks i'd buy it. but as SirCygnus said, the top hose sure looks longer than stock

I have had these on my car for nearly two years. I also had to cut them to make them fit correctly, but I still love them.

The stock hoses last over 15 years (my are 18yo and look fine), so a replacement stock set is also very likely to outlast the car for half the price. They're wroth it if you like the bling, but not for longevity.

I can't believe they don't fit, that's amazing for a big company like Samco, especially considering the price. You'd think they never actually test-fitted tham to an FC... :(

I dunno about you, but in NorCal there were temp swings from just about freezing to over 100F.
I think that's 0C to 35C?
In Vegas, the extremes are slightly worse from freezing to baking summer heats.
Rad hoses are abused, and FC owners who don't take care of their cars have bulging hoses!
I think the factory replacement schedule is 60,000 miles?
I tend to replace mine every 2 to 3 years or about 50k miles or so.

Sure, I'll admit to the bling factor, but I like to run stuff that's overkill in my car anyways... :)

Fair enough, the climate you live it does effect the life of the hoses, but even so, replacing them evey two years seems like crazy overkill. Are your hoses actually showing signs of failure by then or are you just replacing them as a precaution?

In milder climates (I'm sure those exist somewhere in the US ;)) I be surprised not to get at least ten years out of the hoses. Like I said, mine are original despite being 18 years (12 in Japan) and 170,000km old, and they're in excellent condition.

I couldn't find anything about periodically replacing the radiator hoses in the FSM. It just says to inspect the system every 15,000 miles.

BTW, replacing the radiator hoses isn't enough for full protection from failure. You'd need to replace every rubber coolant hose at the same time. That's gonna get expensive...

Alex6969 03-18-06 01:04 AM

why are rubber hoses so expensive?

rubber isnt expensive...... pre-formed rubber hoses for a car that is 15-20 years old is...... and regular radiator hoses are only $15-30..... the samco's are made of a thicker, stronger rubber.... so they can withstand more abuse (i.e heat, weather) and in term last ALOT longer!

RHDturboII 03-18-06 11:07 AM

I have the samco coolant hoses on my car for the last 4 years. They are the best hoses you can buy for all the applications. They make them for the stock top mount intercooler too.

Tech_Greek 03-18-06 12:32 PM

Cork Sport has the Samco hoses I believe

jacobcartmill 03-18-06 01:10 PM

i want the OBX versions (again, like they only have for the damn FD) that are about half the price!

fc3stech 03-18-06 01:37 PM

I have had these since 2004 when I won the aution on ebay, so i know they have been out a few years

theres no set replacement interval for anything except the normal tune up stuff (filters, plugs, fluids). the do get a periodic inspection. its in the owners, and shop manuals...

the radiator hoses are different prices for s4 and s5, but the most expensive one was the s5, mazda list is $16. all the water hoses are around $150, the japanese hoses are excellent, if one is bad, they are all bad. us made hose (gates, etc) should be changed every 18months or so, its not as good.

samco is nice, but its important to use the right clamps!

RETed 03-18-06 08:34 PM

Damn, I'm paying generic shit from Checkers / NAPA for $15 for the lower and $30 for the upper!
Prices in Hawaii SUCKS!
