Safe to drive with one muffler and one open pipe?

Since my unfortunate loss of one muffler, is it ok for me to drive, say 400km (200 miles or so) with one open pipe(just before where the other muffler would start) and one muffler? Will it damage anything?

I have noticed a far bit of powerloss without it, so I'm not sure if it's loosing backpressure or what.

I drove close to 100miles with nothing BUT my header. I'm sure youll be ok. Try to get it fixed as soon as you can. The noise attracts negative attention to you (i.e cops).

I dunnno if it will hurt anything, but that loss of power is normal. Once I only had headers and it didn't make usable power below 5k :p:.

It must be pretty loud tho without one muffler

I had two cars catch on fire due to faulty exhausts. Just make sure that the exhaust flow isn't heating anything flammable. Having the carpet and luggage in trunk go up in smoke sucks!

Why 200 miles?
Can't you just block it off and run through 1 muffler?

Go to the parts store and buy something to deflect the exhaust flow downwards.
Its your car and your risk.

Yeah, it;s damn loud. Civic with a 13-inch coffee can and no cats loud.

It's a trip down to a junkyard in Toronto (about 200km's away) to pick up pieces for my 7, and I'm waiting on my N1 to arrive in the mail. The pipe ends almost right underneath the gas tank, so that's probably my number one fear as I have no idea how hot it can get.

The other muffler is stock, so anything that will deflect the exhaust will make it safer?

WELL WHEN my muffler fell off i didnt have money to put another so i jus saved up for 2 new mufflers and a new y pipe but it was jus soooo illegal to drive like that .
but hey i won a loudest revving contest with it ;)

I would at least block it off, High exhaust temps and gas dont mix to well if you know what I mean!:)

From a noise standpoint it's surprisingly quiet. I've heard plenty of Civics, Neons, etc. et nausea that are louder with their fart cans.

Damn Swede 08-11-02 06:55 PM

But did you hear it above 3k?

seventhgear 08-11-02 10:14 PM

try driving on the interstate in between 2 semi truckz then tell me if a civic is loud? ;)
