Is it safe to Depin emissions plugs from harness

I'm working on a s4 t2 engine harness and i was wondering if it would be a problem to de pin and remove the plugs for emissions from the rats nest. All emissions have been previously removed. Just want to know if there is any negative affects to this? the harness is being repaired and re-wrapped.

Ive stripped the emissions chaff out of a number of wiring harnesses by pulling the harness apart taking out and depinning the wires. A long as you know what you are doing and understand what is needed and what is not for your application there is nothing inherently wrong with doing so.

If anything old harnesses benefit a lot from a complete rewrap. You can repair any wires that have gotten brittle and have cracked insulation or fraying, provide new wrap to replace the heat damaged stuff that is now 25 years old give or take.

For racing, at some point you end up with a huge plug with only 3-5 wires left in it, in which case i ditch the stock plug and go weatherpack.
