safc crap?? or am i a idiot??

i tried to get my safc up and running this past weekend...i installed it and then i set my settings before trying to strat it.

mind u i have a 88 SE:
i set it on flap, 5in 5out, 4 cyl, **,

when i started it it purred like a kitten, then when i went to give it gas it died out so bad, if i eased in on it is was ok, if i accellerated atall it bogged like shit.....so i unplugged the air flow wires from the safc and plugged them back together on the computer side, and stareted it up fine, and she runs great now,

my voltages were
n1-.095 or close to it
n2-.05 close to it
throttle- 4.65 approx...

what is th deal?? is there some other initial setting i shoudl do to keep it from bogging out so bad??

also i hit 123 with my ports closed w/aftermarket speedo
and i hit 145 with them wired open, by myself almost outa gas....but thats without my tII fuel pump, safc working and my ported intake and TB..

what is the deal wiuth my safc???

The settings you are using are wrong..

Set to Flap type AFM
5 in 5 out
4 cyl
NOT **, you need to set it to the rising arrow.. pointing to the top right corner ...

crossbar17 03-31-02 07:15 PM

how do u set flap type AFM??? si there an option??

Bambam7 03-31-02 08:48 PM

The main menu is setting, monitor, and etc.
go to etc -> Sensor type, and select flap.

4.65V throttle?? Somethin is wrong there... hopefully it'll change with the different setting.
throttle should be about 1v when closed, and 4-5v when WOT.

crossbar17 03-31-02 10:48 PM

i did select flap, then 5in 5out, up arrow and to the right and 4 cylinder,

it is fucked i say fucked

crossbar17 03-31-02 11:16 PM

i think my safc is a shit box, even when i hook it up it doesnt read throttle percentage only rpm's and i have hooked it up 5 times, i dont knwo what to do, such a waste of time

crossbar17 03-31-02 11:18 PM

y do i read 4.5 or so on the third voltage reading? and hardly anythignon the others its a fucking POS

rx7_turbo2 03-31-02 11:20 PM

If it doesnt read voltage you probably have a bad connection. Each time you tap into a sensor wire fire the S-AFC up to make sure you have a voltage reading.

Most problems with the S-AFC occur during operation, if your not reading voltage you have either a bad connection or have tapped the wrong wire or something.

rx7_turbo2 03-31-02 11:24 PM

OK you have something wired wrong.

In-1 should be airflow and it should be 4.0v
In-2 is used for O2 sensor voltage (optional)
Thrt- Throttle should read as close to 1.00 as possible.

All this can be check in the etc file under sensor check.

which fucking diagram do i use, sorry i am obviously not mad at anyone but the little blue glowing thing in my car, and possibly myself i used the z1-a diagram, there are three plugs, if u tell me which wire goes in which plug when looking at the ECU mounted in the car that would help alot, such as power is top right of middle plug, etc etc

rx7_turbo2 04-01-02 12:24 AM

Ok Z1-A is correct.

On pages 4b-30 through 4b-32 of the factory service manual there is a break down of the wires on the ecu. I suggest you download it. www.iluvmyrx7.com
Perhaps someone could scan that section for you.

HAILERS 04-01-02 09:20 AM

Go to this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=59266 There, under HAILERS, you will find several JPGS of the fsm and on those pages you will see the function of each and every plug on the ECU. There's about four or five jpg's. And as a side note, the one (1v) for the tps should be with the car fully warmed up. And if you will just think about it for a moment, this means the tps should be reading 1v at the ECU when set properly. So when you go to adjust your tps, turn the tps screw till you read 1v. Done. No light rig. No ohm meter etc. Just turn till you get 1v at the ECU or displayed on your safc.
