Goal:

Move 87.5 GXL 5-speed drivetrain, suspension and exhaust and necessary instrumentation into an 88 GXL Auto.

87.5 needs to give up:

Pedal Assembly
Transmission
Driveshaft
Flywheel (may use a spare instead so it can be resurfaced)
Clutch and pressure plate
Clutch master, slave and hydraulics (just keep them together)

Optional (requires putting the cars in the air, and not a high priority)
Front struts (calipers stay on each car)
Rear shocks and springs
Exhaust


88 needs to have all the same stripped and installed.



Tools:

Jackstands and ramps for both cars
Compressor
Impact Driver
Flywheel socket
Socket set

wtf is this?

Cars will need to be in the air anyway since you also need to change the transmission mounts.

Well I have figured out that the crossmember will be a fun job. The automatic gearbox is a bit longer, and as a result the crossmember is mounted further back. Per Kevin Landers' site however, an adapter can be fabricated quite easily.

For anyone who has done this before, tips are greatly appreciated.

I've got the two cars.. Both GXLs...one's manual and the other is autotragic.

You will also probably want to swap the diffs to get the 4.1 ratio, rather that the 3.9 that's in the automatic. Swapping the whole rear assembly is probably the easiest, but bring a couple friends and about three floor jacks when you do.
