s5 turbo on and s4?
 

Hey, Quick question. I was just wondering if the s5 turbo and manifold are a direct bolt on to the s4 engine. And if it isn't then how much trouble to put one on? Just wondering because of this guy's words.

I have here a super clean and very low mileage Series 5 89-91 Jspec turbo. This is the complete setup! All parts perfect! You get everything..turbo (NO CRACKS), Perfect cleaned and inspected manifold(NO CRACKS), all stainless steel gaskets, all oem hardware, and heatshields, all water and oil lines and drain lines! Works on any 89-91 turbo II or UPGRADE your S4 86-88 turbo II with this larger turbo..

yup... the block is pretty much the same (minor diferences only mostly internal) should bolt right up


u can swap them out no problems... i suggest u port the wastegate since the turbo is already off the car as well.. might as well kill 2 birds with one stone :)

You do have to do a little work to block off the twin-scroll system though from the S4 turbo, since the S5 turbo doesn't have it.

Also, if you're trying to pass emmissions it can be a problem, since the S5 turbo mani doesn't have the egr(?) hole like the S4 mani does.

To put a S5 turbo on a S4 you will need the turbo and the exhaust manifold.

THEN you need to keep the S4 Oil return line since they are different designs(OMP placement).

Other than that, it's a drop in replacement.

Is there any advantage to moving to the s5 turbo? I thought the power difference was mostly due to the compression ratio of the rotors.

S5 turbo setup has a divided manifold and turbine housing, no twin scroll actuator so exhaust flow should be a little smoother. The S5 also has a significantly larger wastegate area, for better boost control.

The bearing section and compressor side is the same.

So I hope nobody is going to jack this buy from me if I post this but here goes...

Can anyone tell me if this is an entire "kit" for this kind of swap. By this I mean, do I have all the necessary parts to just buy this.

A tip so you don't have to do extra work.

PORT the WASTEGATE
If you upgrade your exhaust you WILL boost creep even w/ a S5.

Porting is a must with FC wastegates. You might as well do it while it's out of the car.

Installing a rubber cap onto a vac line barely qualifies as work... ;)

Just to clear up one possible area of confusion...
Unless we're talking about a compressor upgrade or a hybrid, the turbo (compressor) size is the SAME; it is NOT larger!
They are both Hitachi HT-18 compressors and wheels.

The Kouki FC3S turbo set-up allows for a wider power band, with power (from the turbo) kicking in faster.
The power output is a lot smoother too, so initially the car might feel slower, but it's not.
