S5 Turbo Motor Into S4 Turbo Car.

I think I bit off more than I could chew.
I bought a JDM S5 Turbo motor with ECU to motor wiring harness and tranny and planned on putting it in my 1988 10th A.E.
Shortly after putting the motor in, I saw it needed to have the ECU reppined becuase the connectors are vastly different. I've searched high and low for accurate wiring diagrams or at least a schematic I can understand and haven't found anything. AS FAR AS I KNOW the only problems I'm facing are; Repinning the ECU and making the throttle cablework with the S5 manifold (which IDK how to do either) Any help would be greatly appreciated or if anyone wants to straight up trade an S5 turbo rolling chassis for a 10th A.E. rolling chassis let me know.

Are you trying to use the S4 ECU?

You need to get a S5 throttle cable and you're gonna need a N370 pressure sensor... I would think of more things but my head hurts right now...

S5 electronics are too much of a hassle.

I did the same swap.
I used ALL S4 electronics but used the hardware from the S5(engine/turbo/TMIC)

I used the S4 TII harness and ECU
S4 injectors
S4 BAC
S4 TB and TPS
I premix instead of using the OMP as well.

BTW I recommend sending the turbo out for a rebuild before installation. It should help remove a few possible tuning headaches.

Yea for what it's worth, that's what I did too, but earlier when I posted, I had just woke up after splitting my head wide open last night... I wasn't thinking clearly... :)

My setup:

1987 Base model
S5 block
S5 intake manifolds
S5 turbo and manifold
S4 throttle body and TPS
S4 front cover
S4 injectors
S4 OMP (bout to get yanked)
S4 pressure sensor
S4 harness
S5 tranny
S4 LSD

All my emissions are blocked off so there's no need for the S4 emissions stuff...

Thanks a lot for your help. The local RX-7 guru (when I asked) told me that all the hardware on the s4 was not interchangable with the s5, because i wanted to go that route but yeah, thanks a bunch. But now i need to source an S4 harness and ECU because the bastard kept them.
Btw, what an OMP and BAC?

MaczPayne 04-02-06 07:09 PM

OMP = Oil Metering Pump

BAC = Bypass Air Control (valve)

OMP = Oil Metering Pump (also referred to as MOP or "Metering Oil Pump")

BAC = Bypass Air Control Valve

*fell asleep at the post*

Im sorry to resurect this thread but im about to do the same swap. Im using an S5 short block with all my S4 stuff. My question is if i use an OMP block off plate and run premix do I still have to change the front cover to the S4 front cover? And will all my S4 turbo oil lines bolt up the the S5 front cover with out any modifications?

Digi7ech 05-22-06 03:26 PM

The Oil return line won't connect if I remember right if you don't swap front covers. You could always make your own return line though.

If your running premix you don't have to swap covers.

So you can either swap covers to make your drain line work or leave it as is and make your own oil return line.

Can i use the S5 turbo oil return line so i dont have to change the front cover?

cool ... thanks alot for the help

fc3s91 05-22-06 09:33 PM

you can swap out the s4 oil return line onto the s5 turbo to make it work.
Thanks Robert

thanks guys i am thinking about doing this same swap in my series 4. So once i have the Series 5 hardwhere and parts from my series 4 engine i should be ok.
