s5 turbo manifold on s4
will this eliminate twin scroll or not and if so will a s5 manifolf fit an s4 motor and turbo, bolt straight up no mods. i need a new turbo and i can get a rebuilt nice one but no twin scroll peices come with and i dont want mine any more either it make my exhaust sound bad at 2800 rpms but thats it

S4/5 have diff turbo flanges. both will bolt to either engine but you can alternate the turbos.
get a S5 turbo and manifold |
you have to swap turbo and manifolds as pairs in other words. an S4 turbo won't bolt to a S5 manifold.
|
There would also be no reason to mix them in any event. The S5 pieces are superior than the S4 pieces IMHO.
Just go straight S5. But. Is the S5 swap just a bolt on affair or does anything need to be modded in the process? I am getting ready to do this myself. |
ok so now my question proceeds to twin scroll... cant you eliminate this or would it be wise to leave it alone

is your turbo blown? if it is ever consider getting it rebuilt?
you can eliminate the twinscroll... the cost of a s5 turbo and manifold in good shape would be more than the price of a rebuild kit for the s4 turbo.... hell a bnr upgrade on the s4 would be a couple hundred more than a s5 manifold and turbo if i were you if you dont want all that much power just get a rebuild kit rebuild your turbo and eliminate the twin scroll rather than getting a USED s5 turbo and manifold. or if you want more power maybe in the future go for a BNR hybrid as they can make 300rwhp with supporting mods... i think if your an s4 turbo2 guy its stupid to go s5 turbo and minifold unless you can get both in good condition for around $100 since they will be used compared to rebuilt/basically brand new |
I am getting my S5 turbo and manifold for $50.
The S5 is a superior unit to the S4 in more ways than one. Getting an S4 rebuilt would be stupid compared to getting an S5 turbo. You are looking at 100 - 150 for S5 units. Just get that and ditch the S4. Eliminating the twinscroll in this case is a good thing. |
sweet well i would love a bnr upgrade but dont know where to get that turbo

are the heat shiels for the manifolds the same for s4/s5

Just make sure you have the S5 oil drain back line and oil supply line. They are different from an S4. I know that I had to use the S5 drain back, not sure which supply line I used. If you have them both you'll be good.

God knows what you did to your engine but this is wrong. You need the oil drain line that matches the engine, not the turbo. It's the engine end of the line that's different. So when swapping an S5 turbo onto an S4 engine you must keep the S4 oil drain line you already have. The oil supply lines are the same.
Your right, NZ, my bad. There I go spreading mis-information, oops! The main point that I was trying to make was that there were differences between S5 and S4 oil supply and drain lines and if you had both, you would have enough parts to make it a true bolt on upgrade. I know what had me confused. When I got the S5 turbo it came with all S5 lines, and I couldn't remember for sure, which ones I had ended up with. I did go back and check the differences. Oil drain is different on the engine side(just like you said), the oil supply line is also different. The short part from the turbo(banjo fitting to the tapered seat fitting), that connects to the line going to the engine, is longer on the S5. So it looks like I used everything from the S4 with the exception of the turbo, manifold, and heat shields. |
stock turbo - leave the twin scroll alone
upgraded turbo - port the runners and remove the twin scroll, it won't help spool a larger turbo all that well with its preset RPM actuation anyways and you can't use it if you port the runners for added flow. |
