s5 turbo hotside & manifold with everything else s4?
can you use the s5 turbo manifold and hotside housing on an s4 turbo?
this is random i realize but theres an opportunity to get a ported s5 hotside etc and i wouldnt mind keeping my s4 compressor and rest of the stuff thats in good shape |
no, the compressor side and center bearing housing is the same, but the hot side, manifold are different. I believe reted had a website fc pro that explains everything
|
As long as you match the manifold and hotside, it will work. The one problem combination is if you try using a double heat-shielded S4 turbo with the S5 hotside. The extra heat shield causes a gap between the turbine and housing and results in a loss in efficiency. The second heatshield can be removed, but requires disassembling the rotating assembly.

Bolt pattern is completely different |
if you are saying the bolt pattern is different you clearly dont understand the question.
however i dont feel like taking apart the rotating assy so this idea may be dead as of now. |

i actually read that link to fc3s pro. i had read it before but not that part specifically. so it looks like its do-able. im just not sure its worth it with the heat shield issue. if im going to need to disassemble it anyways, i might as well rebuild it. and if im going to go through all that mess i might as well just port what i have....as much as i want the s5 turbo response.
to be clear, hotside housing & manifold on S4 everything else. rotating assy and cold side housing. |
it shouldn't be a problem, the efficiency issue would be marginally noticable. the lines might need to be tweaked a little to get them to fit though, since the S5 turbo/manifold uses completely different lines but the turbo positioning is nearly identical.
|
my s4 lines fit exactly the same, I guess the center bearing housing ends up in the same position in the engine bay.
I would only be worried about the s4 tiny Watergate flapper. if you search, a few dsm shops sell various flapper doors that could be fabricated on the s4 exhaust housing, bnr does it. I also had my buddy machine me a new sleeve so I don't get the Wastegate rattle. also better sealing. if you don't want to go through that trouble either get a s5 turbo, or have someone like bnr upgrade your s4 turbo. You don't want to blow an engine! |
i think that is why he wants to use the S5 manifold and snail.
