S5 thermostat housing
 

My thermostat housing split last week. I am hesitant to put another 16year old plastic part on the cooling system of my S5, so can anyone tell me where to find a new one (dealer only?), or is there a metal replacement made?

Ive looked everywhere and I cant find an alternative unless you put a s4 water pump housing, thats what I did. Works great. I have another plastic neck if you want it just PM me

Yeah, I've got one too. But you should prob just get an s4 neck put on.

Plastic... WHY??? what an improvement. I have several spare s4 housings and necks if you need 1 PM me.

i have a new one from the dealer that i used for about 3 days before the motor blew, and i have a used one so if you need one let me know.

So to do this, I change the waterpump housing to s4 and change to an s4 waterpump as well?

So I need
s4 waterpump housing
s4 waterpump
gaskets
S4 neck
S4 t-stat

and I'm done.
Am I missing anything?

The one that split in your car lasted for 16 YEARS! Is that not long enough for you?

Do you actually plan on owning this car for 16 more years?

mazdatrix just devoloped an aluminum s5 neck. it is under new products, they dont have a price for it on their site, but i am sure that if you call in they will tell you.

16 more years on this car? LOL, I'm having fun, but not that much fun. Of course I don't want to put on another plastic part that is 16 years old and has been in the same environment as the split one. I didn't choose to use an oem replacement plastic tank radiator to replace the one that split on me last summer. I bought an aftermarket all-metal that is more than adequate for a stock N/A.

I am just not interested in the asspounding that the happens everytime I get near the mazda dealer; It's only gotten worse since Ford controls Mazda. That is why I was interested in aftermarket alternatives.

I also decided not to hack in an S4 waterpump and leave the car bastardized for the next owner to figure out.

So I have purchased a 'nearly new' S5 neck from another member who bought it at the dealer then shortly after had an engine failure. Everyone wins except Bill Ford. Bill doesn't need the money.

That's the logical thing to do, but only because they're cheaper than an OEM one. The stock radiator will happily cool a mildly modded Turbo, so upgrading it for an NA street car isn't actually necessary.

Mazdatrix have them for US$69. I think that's fairly reasonable considering an aftermarket metal one will cost more but not really be of any benefit. Unless you're after some polished aluminium bling of course. ;)

Wait, you mean the stock system that they put on cars is enough? Damn, I thought Mazda would of sold a car that overheated automatically.
