Ok it didnt come out as well as I hoped. The tint I guess wasnt applied evenly so when the lights get lit you can see its in patches. So I am taking it apart again and will have a shop spray em.

thecmfactor 01-16-06 12:21 PM

those lights are pretty sweet

I saw a set like that on the road a few weeks back, I thought it was an FD until I got closer. Looks good.

Have any different angle pictures of that lip on the car? If you could get me a ground level (or close) I'd be uber ecstatic or something like that (read: thanks).

Rx Seven 01-18-06 02:09 PM

Hey KiyoKix I have an extra lip for sale from my 240sx PM if you interested.

But back on topic I really like the mod you did with the tail light have you done any other experimenting with them since that last set that you did?

wicked_rotary 01-19-06 11:04 PM

tails look great, I made leds for my S5, and they are super bright, and look cool, I think now I may cut em apart and do this, great pics, nice car too.

First gen man 01-20-06 02:19 AM

It's almost the same for the first gen.

In my first gen you do the same thing but there's some complicity to them.

When you pull out the diffuser that's sandwiched in the middle, you lose your color. The outer lens is clear, and the diffusers are what colors the light.

So I stuck some red led bulbs similar to the ones posted in this thread somewhere. And yellow ones for blinkers. The LED bulbs are alot dimmer so they don't blind you. With the clear bulbs and clear lenses, the tail lights could be used for a house lamp easly.. Way too bright.

I'll put picks up if anyone wants.

MARTIN 01-20-06 03:24 AM

What can I say? Great minds think alike. :) I had the idea almost for as long as I've had the car, but it never went into fruition until my tails were apart (about a year 1/2 ago?) and I had them sitting for a while with the lenses gently resting over the housing with the diffusers set aside. Every time I saw them sitting there I remarked to myself about how good the looked *just* like that. I had taken them apart initially to do something like Niteshade, but I needed to see the composition of *all* the parts--inside and out before I knew what my "creative limitations" would be. Next time around I think I'll try something else. Hopefully as unique (if not moreso) that these. ;)

BTW, here are some pics of the lip for the dude who requested them. :)

speaking about converting the led s5 tailights is not that hard with spending a fair amount of time.
here are the led's that i used
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maxxi...31288951QQrdZ1
would say the hardest part is pulling the set apart. that glue used by mazda was meant to stay shut. best way i thought was to pull them apart. remove small screws and weatherstripping with heat gun. then bake them at 300 for 20mins. feel the platic get pliable. with a jig a setup, it would slowly push out the lenses while it was in the oven being heated.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...y/DSC01752.jpg

the corner lense has hard bends, so start with the brake light lense.

once taking apart time to place the led in and mount it. i just used epoxy, four min set time. the wiring part is easy to figure out since the led's i used were clearly labeled. theres only three, ground, brake and drving lights.

replacing the lense: most of which just go back over the steps.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...y/DSC01765.jpg

by the way this is not the way to correctly pull apart taillight lenses.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...y/IMG_7855.jpghere are the leds i used led maxxima
