s5 t2 tranny into s4 t2, now speedo doesnt work...

Anybody have any insight? The s4 cable plugged right into the transmission, but I'm not getting anything... it seems I remember when I pulled my the tranny on my old s5 t2 that the end of the speedo cable had a small gear on the end of it, but the end of the speedo cable on this s4 t2 doesn't have that gear. The transmission is JDM I believe because there are only two plugs on it.... thanks for the look...

All the cables are the same for s4/s5. There shouldn't be any "gear" at the end of the cable, only a metal male end on it. Take a look at this:

If the s5 t2 transmission, when you pulled the spedo cable, came out with a gear. That gear probably came off the transmission, which is why you don't get any speed reading (probably the gear that turns the speedo cable).

Remove the cable, take a look at the inside of the transmission in that opening for the cable. Compare it to your s4 transmission. Something that isn't supposed to come out, came out. The parts should be identical.

will do.....

okay maybe i should clarify... the transmission is not off of my old t2 as referenced above, it is a JDM transmission that I picked up off of a forum member. The inputs for the speedo cable look identical from transmission to transmission, when you remove the 10mm but affixing the speedo cable to the transmission, is there not a gear attached to the assembly?

sooooo..... i need to remove the gear from the s4 transmission and transplant it into my s5 transmission?

You shouldn't be removing any 10mm nuts, or any nuts in general. The speedometer cable SPINS off by hand (maybe a wrench is needed to help get it started) at the GREY end near the tranny. Last time I rememberd, the cable has a square section on the gray metal round part of it near the tranny which a big wrench fits over to help you loosen it.

If you are removing any nuts at the transmission itself, you are doing something bad : ) Gears shouldn't be coming out at all of the cable. It's just a cable after all. The type of transmission won't matter as far as I know. If cables are same s4/s5, I have a jdm swapped s5 into my u.s. s5. Works fine.

See red circle in picture attached.

nevermind.... i"m referring to the speedo gear. Im going to try and swap the s4 speedo gear into the s5 transmission and see if that works.

Well then.... I wouldn't know : )

If you are missing the gear that's why it's not spinning. You should be able to swap your old one into it with little or no problem.

I would wonder where the old gear "disappeared" to? It might be wise to look around really good inside the hole and see if you can find it in there.

I'm also assuming that you probably lost some fluid when removing the gear. Don't forget to remove the bolt on the side and fill it back up.

No no no, the s5 JDM transmission has the gear in it, well to the best of my knowledge anyway, I simply swapped it into my s4 turbo and plugged in the cable... now the speedo isn't working.
