S5 T2 engine rebuild

Ok so i bought this engine from a member on here about 1 1/2 years ago. It was supposed to have only 2k miles on a rebuild. He did the rebuild himself with all new bearings and did a large street port with a kilo racing template. So i bought it and put it in. The oil always thinned out and smelled of gas after 500 miles, so i know sumthing wasnt right.....it now has 10k on it and a water seal just went. so i pulled it out and tore it apart. This is the first rotary i have had apart so i dont know wuts considered acceptable wear, wut a good port job looks like...ect. But i think this guy sucked. The edges of the ports arent straight, his dremel slipped multiple times. So let me know wut u guys think.... if u need anymore pics let me know and thnks ahead of timeAttachment 389398

here are sum more pics and sum quotes that he said about the engine when i bought it...."1990 s5 engine streetported w/ harness, ecu. all you would have to do is plug it in and go. This will not be a hit of miss because the engine is rebuild the right way with all new master rebuild kit from atkins plus new bearings." and "If you are really in need of a great engine. I have one for you and I will stand behind it. If you are looking for something cheap like with 3000 miles of life in it this is not it."

After 2 years finally got my engine back together.....All new rotor housing and irons. I shipped everything down to BDC to get a HBP done and have it balanced.

Here are some pics after i painted it and put it together....Just waiting on an ignition map from Brian at BDC to plug into the rtek 2.1 so i can get her running and start the painful break in

looks very nice mate.. good on you for hanging in there

might want to clean some paint back before you fit the inlet manifold gasket

might also want to get someone to set your endfloat up again.. you have the timing cover and sump fitted.. no pulley and motor horizontal..
you must redo the the front stack again.. and keep it vertical until the pulley bolt is done up .. please do this else you risk the engine

tmoon 07-26-12 12:39 PM

thanks!!............yea i already cleaned i the intake mating surface and i rechecked the endfloat after i put the pulley back on, all is good

Brian has been great with keeping in contact with me through this whole thing, but for the last two weeks he hasn't been answering his phone or replying to emails......anyone know whats up?

shit is all too common.

someone rebuilds their own engine
first port job
no research done
port into oil seal tract
no exhaust port bevel
engine is trash

done.

now we see why the rotary has a shitty name.

Yea this was my first rotary build, but i spent enough money on the housings and irons that i wasn't about to try and port them myself which is why i sent them to Brian....and im glad i did:nod:
