S5 rat's nest question

ok so i'm putting a new engine in my car as soon as i recieve it (hopefully sometime this week) and i am curious if i need the part that goes inbetween 2 vac. lines. on the rats nest area that contains vac. lines and the fuel lines to the injectors.

the only way i can think of to explain it is, the little white balley thing with a green stripe. I seem to have been a little bit of a dumbass one day last week and somehow broke off one of the nipples.

since i have no idea what this is called i thought i shoudl post a thread about it.

oh and if i do need one, anybody got one for me? and if i don't need one, what was it there for?

thanx guyses.
Matt

It's a check valve. It's needed to make the emission controls (specifically the ACV's relief valve) work properly. If you want a functioning emission control system, you need to replace it.

emissions are for suckers.

And yes there is emmissions tests in my area.

ok so now that it's broken and i also live in minnesota--they do not check vehicles for emissions stuff, so how do i go about dealing without this valve? can i just throw a longer vac hose on it and not even worry about it, or will that throw the shit out of whack??

thanks,
Matt

The relief valve in the ACV won't close, so the air pump will always be pushing air straight out the relief hose instead of into the exhaust when required. Emissions will be much higher and if you still have the stock cat it'll eventually clog.

If you have no emissions testing you could just remove the air pump, ACV and cat.
