S5 problems.. HELP!

My steering is terrible. it feels like and slight uneven surface in the road causes major travel in the steering wheel from side to side. it feels dangerous.

It doesnt have power steering, how hard is it to install, there are belts on all pulleys and what not? could the pump have failed?

S5 seats are SO umcomfortable, has anyone else found this? what is a cheap , comfortable alternative?

Get the car in the air and inspect the steering rack and column, tie rods (inner and outer), hubs, wheels bearings, etc.
Your problem is not Madza RX-7 specific, it's just standard automotive tech.

This part makes no sense.
Either you have PS or you don't (or you have a bastardized ex-PS rack?).

Yeah, I tried three different styles of RX seat and hated 'em all.
Currently using Integra seats and lovin life.

Check the fluid level, is there any in it. The pump could have failed, yes.

+1 on clokkers reply

I too have an ex-ps rack, and find with the proper technique (and some weightlifting ) the car operates just fine. Mind you this is different from a car that still has ps fluid in it, with a broken pump. In this case it will be absurdly difficult to use.

And what is with you guys? the S5's seats are real comfy. Just get the leather re-upholstered and refurbished and your good. Or maybe I just have a hard ass.

Man the lower region of my seat is so hard and protrudes so much further than the top, i find it painful on my lower back unless i sit forward.

Also im 6'1'' and 100kgs at around 12% bf so im not that small, maybe im too big for it?

The rack isn't noisy so i would assume you would hear it alot more if it were empty. Ill check later though

Yea, I'm 5'11 and whenever I go to the track I have to tilt my head sideways a little with my helmet on to fit in the car. Sadly, these cars were designed with short Japanese people in mind.

-1 on noise tho. While I have a little play in my steering it is perfectly silent. (well I guess I might not hear it over the exhaust) R&P's move so slowly that unless you get a bunch of sand in there it shouldn't be noisy.
