S5 FC vs 1998 Ford Escort ZX2?
My gf's friend who runs a 98 ZX2 with a bolt on exhaust keeps bragging about how his car is fast as hell and how he's positive he will beat me in a 1/4 mile drag
My S5 has RB exhaust and custom cone intake, NA with about 125k on very well kept engine, Im almost positive Ill win this but before I go jumping into things, what are the odds here? Or am I thinking too much into this? Both cars are manuals? |

I work on both and own both cars.. don't think it's an 'escort' it's not, it shares the same block and head with the escort cosworth, ( YB ), it's 2380lb's builds 138ft/lbs at 2300 and maintains that tq number to 7000 rpm it's got the same close ratio TYPE BC tranny as the UK puma.. IF you can hold with the zx2 ( I'm assuming you have an NA with a 5spd otherwise you've lost), till 3rd gear then you should walk on him after that, the zx2's soft spot is the VCT and the lack of high HP up high ( 140hp)..
Mark, taking cars like that for grated will get your ass handed to you one of these days. a 6lb boosted zx2 will have 185tq/195hp, the zx2 is not a Ford North america car it's a ford UK design FOR ford USA.. I LOVE my 7 but the NA's low end TQ is a real problem. |
