S5 electronic OMP question

I tried searching and using google to no avail sadly, the S5 omp system on my rx7, does it work constantly and vary at all with how much oil is injected into the combustion process? if I recall properly the last time I checked the engine bay and glanced at the omp lines I did not notice any oil moving through them, the only thing visible were some drips it seems near the omp itself, I revved the engine and nothing changed, there was no noticible movement of oil.

I am currently running a power FC unit in my vehicle, the car is from japan as well so it does not have a CEL, not that it matters with the PFC I believe.

thoughts?

That would be something to check into.Maybe with the PFC section on the forum.

My question would be if the PFC is hooked up in the Stock s5 form allowing the OMP as part of the electrical system that the PFC can control. If it does not do anything for the S5 OMP then it would not work and can get deleted so you would have to Premix your fuel.

That is my Thought....(that and can a bicycle get parked in Kim Kardashian's ass..and remain standing?.I say yes.)

it's a Power FC specific for the S5 RX7, it's a complete plug-and-play and not an FD unit with conversion harness (I lucked out finding one, score!), I believe it does control the OMP by default and while looking into the FC-datalogit it seems there is some sort of control available; 'oiler vs temp' and shows values. from what I've learned deleting the OMP will not throw the car into limp mode, so I can also premix if I would like/delete omp and solely premix. I'm just worried about the current operation I guess and if I could have hurt anything.

I guess my major concern would be the operation at idle and such. if I should notice oil moving through the injection lines at idle and on a free-rev, or would it primarily be under boost. the vehicle has been ran this way for 4000km before I noticed a thing or felt anything was wrong, but it's a growing concern now.

P.S. I'm certain you can park a bicycle standing up in her keister.

It runs all the time. It has to. You can look in the factory service/training manual to get the real data on it, but other than that you should probably leave it alone.

yeah I will leave it alone then, it just worried me when I saw no visible flow or movement coming from the lines.

since I plan to increase boost, I plan to premix as well.

the delivery rate of the metering system is really small, its something like 2cc in 6 minutes.

the metering pump, is composed of three parts. there is a mechanical pump, with a variable sized piston, a stepper motor to vary the pump, and a position sensor, so the ecu can see that the pump is working.

the system is actually exactly like a drive by wire throttle.

with the stock ecu, there is a map that is based on coolant temp, load (afm) and rpm. the ecu commands the pump, and then checks the position sensor to make sure that for a given map coordinate, that the metering pump is in the right place. if it is not, the ecu will go into a limp home, as no oil is really hard on the engine.

the pfc works the same way, except it doesn't care about the position sensor, and wont do anything if the pump fails.

you can go into the sensor/switch screen and make sure the pump is working. you can also change the amount of oil the engine gets. we have Mazda's oiling map (arghx has posted it before), and it seems to be that the oiling requirement is mostly based on rpm (sliding friction vs seal temp vs amount of oil), but if you increase the power, it seems like it would want more oil too.

when I select the correct tab the only setting that is available to me is 'oiler vs temp' and nothing else.

presumably if the electronic pump fails I get zero oil injected even though there is a mechanical portion, correct?

hard to say, the FSM says it defaults to 50%...

Correct.

The electronic portion of the pump just varies the amount of oil based on revs, temp, load.

I am simplifying this, but the stepper motor basically moves a plunger either in our out depending on demand. More oil demand from ecu, plunger moves out allowing more oil to reach the oil injectors. Less oil demand, plunger moves in to partially block the oil passage based on ecu parameters.

if the factory ECU does control the OMP based on revs, temp and load. is there a way for the powerFC to control it the same? as mentioned earlier it only gives me one way to control, 'oiler vs temp' seems to be a step backwards.
