S5 - Best option to tap for Switched 12v?
Hey folks. I've done a lot of searching and trying to wrap my head around the technical manual, but I just can't seem to make any sense of these wiring diagrams.
I'm looking for a switched 12v source, preferably in the passenger glove box/footwell area that I can tap into for a relay any time the key is turned on. Does anybody have any actual loom-diagrams they could point me towards? |

If all you're activating is the control side of the relay, that only requires a few milliamps and can be vampired from any IGN +12v source...like the radio or the HVAC fan. If you also want to power whatever device the relay controls, you're going to need a fused 12v source from the battery. |
doesn't the bin itself have a light in it,operated by a Pin type switch?..Use that.
OR go straight to the IGN Switch and tap into the power side of the switch.(I'd tap after the switch connection,on the dash harness, just in case you need to swap your ignition switch out.) |

The glovebox light, as well as the storage bin lights, only work when the running lights are on.
Mazda is weird. You're right in that i'm just looking for +12v to activate the relay, I've got a separate fused run to the battery. I'm just looking for something that has power whenever the key is in any position other than 0. Is the plug to the hvac fan always hot and runs off its own relay? |
Well, you may have a problem.
Most accessories go dead when the ignition is in the START position, do you need power then as well? If so, look at the power feeds to the ECU. |

12V Switch Power
There is a green 6 pin check connector that sits on the fender well on the driver side next to the battery, look at the back of the connector where the wires stab in and find a black with white strip wire (its a bigger gauge than the rest of them). That pin is 12V switched. But the only thing is you'll have to run a wire through the firewall. I used this when I was running my Haltech to power it's relays; worked very well. Hope this helps!
