S4 TurboII engine stationary gear failer.. lots of pics!

Well S4 engine locked up on a local club memeber.. and I picked up the engine to take apart and use as a display.. well the front half was perfect, apex seals were like new, housings perfect, rotors had no carbon build up, and looked as if it was reciently rebuilt..still had HYLOMAR on the side plates water seals.

Thats the rotor from the front.. uncleaned fresh out the motor.

Well on to the fun part..

I don't know the story behind to the damage.. I sent a pm to the prevous owner of the engine and asked what exactly he was doing when this happend. I'll let you guys know as soon as I find out.. but for now.. I figure I would share.

I my guess is he missed shifted.. over revered and damaged the stationary gears, till it locked up.

Well coming from you, that means alot. :)

Archangels 06-26-05 11:58 PM

holy fuck....

RotaryEvolution 06-27-05 12:02 AM

my sentiments exactly....

i doubt it was a missed shift, it looks like the motor had only been run for less than a few minutes, my guess is faulty assembly, how that is possible to get these results is beyond my fucking comprehension though.

One of my engines had stationary gear damage but ddaaaamn, that looks insane!

fastrotaries 06-27-05 12:49 AM

My friend just said maybe it was thrown in reverse by accident! what ever it was...it makes my teeth hurt.

trainwreck517 06-27-05 01:06 AM

huh what you mean thrown in reverse? while driving? in that case he would have broke the tranny if he ever got in gear in the first place.

igottafc 06-27-05 01:11 AM

my guess is that he put a brick on the gas pedal and poured sand into the oil fill or he drained the oil out the engine and held it at redline?

Mint87RX7 06-27-05 01:14 AM

no, not sand. napalm

RotaryEvolution 06-27-05 01:16 AM

more like phosphorus...

Steel 06-27-05 01:20 AM

ouch. That must have made one hell of a death cry...

I assume the housing was wiped out by the rotor too, judjing by the apex seal grooves being pinched/folder over shut. Dang.

MARTIN 06-27-05 01:29 AM

that motor looks like it had less than a mile on it. Maybe he left the gear unbolted?? cant wait to hear the responce of the prev. owner.

RotaryEvolution 06-27-05 01:38 AM

ever seen a helicopter crash?

bad rotary deaths look similar to low elevation heli crashes...
i love it when i crash my RC helicopter but i hate the price i pay to fix it. parts flying everywhere! lol

gonzz 06-27-05 01:39 AM

Wow!!! Let us know what he says...

jacobcartmill 06-27-05 02:16 AM

anal pentration happened inside that engine.

ddub 06-27-05 02:16 AM

Wow... I want to know how that happened.

jacobcartmill 06-27-05 02:18 AM

i bet thats a serious over-rev with horribly disgusting oil that hadnt been changed in 20k miles

ddub 06-27-05 02:20 AM

Looks too new for that, the rotors didn't even have any carbon!

BDC 06-27-05 02:33 AM

Anybody get a shot of the rear iron housing? I'd like to kn ow if the indexing pin for the rear stationary gear is still intact and in-place.

Siraniko 06-27-05 10:32 AM
