S4 TUrbo life?
 

My 88 AE has the stock turbo on it still becuase it still puts out all the way to 15 psi (too scared to run it higher) How long do they tend to last? Mine currently has 154k on it and I thought they were only supposed to last about 100k miles.. Also when it does go out would it be better to go to a junkyard and find a good condition s5 turbo or s4. OR should I get a bigger one? Are their any bigger ones that are cali smog legal? THanks.

its most likely that the Previous owner did not abuse it and took care of it. U do realise even with that Fcon that you have there, you are maxxing out your fuel system. The safe amount is about 10psi, the stock fuel system just is not safely capable of supporting more than 10 psi, 12 at the very most which is borderline. With the way you have you car setup, i dont think it will last for very much longer. if i were you, id turn the boost way down, if you want to avoid a rebuild of the motor in the near future.

yeah you definetly need to upgrade the fuel system or your engine is going soon. 15 isnt too bad for racing but if your driving it for more than racing then a rebuild is going to be needed. If you want to run that high of boost then you probobly should get a better turbo than stock but not to big so it can spool quick.

well he already upgraded the fuel system hes got a new ECU, new Fuel pump, and the injectors should be able to handle it as i suspect. but i do not know the tolerances on the turbos i think it would be more cost effective to get it refurbished, unless you want to run more boost more effiecently then the stock turbo can provide

Yeha i have upgraded fuel pump and ecu...next is secondarys 720cc. I rarely run 15 psi. previous owner told me hes run it to 15 psi when he raced. a rotary expert who has done nearly all the mods and serviced the car its whole life said 15 was ok for racing. Even when i race nowadays ill only bost up to 10 psi. 15 is rare for me. I don't drive the car hard all the time either Just wondering life remaining cuz i treat the car the same as the last owner. Maybe even better considering i change oil and stuff every 1500.

i wouldn't push 15lbs with stock 550cc injectors, even maxxed out they couldn't supply enough to keep up. you should have it dynoed or run it with a wideband to see where your mixtures actually are at before going over 10, if even that high.
