s4 tps problems
 

Ok I have an 88 n/a I tested the ohms on it

The spec is

A to B
Idle .95 to 1k

Wot 4k to 6 k

My readings are

A to b

Idle .17k

Wot 6.69

Now A to C

Spec is

Idle 4k to 6k
Wot 4k to k values should decrease checking this.

My readings

Idle 6.88k

Wot starts at 1.01k drops to .82k

It says u can use contact cleanerto clean the plunger... Is my tps toast or what??

Thanks that what I figured since every thing was way off.

When A to B was .17K with the TPS sitting at idle, did you try turning the TPS screw to get a reading of APPROX 1K ?????????????????????? You should have. You don't just check A to B and see if it read approx 1K and assume the TPS is bad if it does not.

When it says at idle, it MEANS with a fully warmed up engine with the water thermowax's cam off the roller i.e. waterthermowax not holding the throttle open any at all.

A to C should start out high at idle and drop in value as the throttle opens.

Bascically a silly check out of the TPS. Just reconnect all the plugs and fully heat up the engine. Then backprobe the green/red wire on the TPS conector on the harness side of the plug. The reading at idle should be approx 1vdc. Then slowly move the throttle to fully open. The value should rise from 1vdc to approx 4.5 to 5vdc when the TPS plunger is fully extended and with no glitches in between.

If the engine if fully hot and the waterthermowax is off it's cam/rollpin, and the value is not 1vdc, then adjust the TPS screw til it reads appox 1vdc.

Kool I pre ajusted the tps setting to .95k... then I let it warm up for a while.. Went back and checked it then reajusted it to .95k runs perfect now!!

Next time put the digital meter on VOLTS DC and with all plugs connected up, AND with a fully warmed up engine, just backprobe the green/red wire on the TPS connector (the side of the connector on the harness side NOT the TPS side) and adjust the reading to output approx 1vdc.

I count .90 to 1.10vdc as APPROX. Closer to 1vdc the better. Hot engine required.
