S4 TII rear end in a S5 GXL
Has anyone swapped out a rear end from a S4 TII on to a S5 GXL? Were there any problems converting? If so let me in on so of the tricks! I plan on doing it this weekend. My LSD is fried in my S5!
S5 REAR>:bash:<S4 REAR Thanks, Warren 90 GXL 88 TII 10th anniversary |
I "beleive" that they are the same. Pretty well plug and play when it comes to driveline pieces. Since you are goin from TII rear end to another TII rear end, it should be no problem. Why'd you get another stock LSD? Why not get a Kazz or Cusco one from Japan;)
EDIT; Hang on, I read that totally wrong. You are puttin a TII rear end in a N/A? You will need an automatic driveshaft for it to work, or a good welder to modify the stock one for you. SOrry for the misunderstanding:( |
auto driveshaft doesn't work... it never has.
no the rear end won't fit... unless you swap the turbo driveshaft, tranny, starter, clutch, and slave clyinder as well. |
yep u took the words out of my mouth scott!!
|
Custom Driveshaft makes it work!!!

Well shit, I was always under the impression that an auto drive shaft, being shorter, would work. Glad I never got around to trying that!!!!! I leave for a few months and I totally loose my brain;)

I leave for a few months and I totally loose my brain;) The auto shaft is about 2 inchs too short (35.94 inchs) but has the correct mounts on each end (the input shaft for the T2 and auto are the same, but the output flange for the connection to the diff is strickly NA). Of course for what he wanted to do it wouldn't work at all. as he needs a NA input to the drive shaft and a T2 flange at the rear end. |

Or should I go with a rear from a N/A s4? I heard the s4 lsd are better than the s5 n/a. I dont think i'm going to switch the whole drivetrain. |
Find a S4 GXL and swap the diffs, that will save you a lot of headache.

save urself a big headache.
if you dont want the driveline and just the rear, then change the bolt pattern on the T2 flange. its not hard. the n/a bolt is a little closer in but take care in ur measurements and ull be good. BTW i kept my n/a rear with a T2 driveline swap by changing the bolt pattern. works like a dream and saved me alotta cash and headache. if i ever go overboard on power i can upgrade later. but right now everything is perfect. |
