s4 TII FEM 1 & 2 pin out

Ok Since I have never seen this posted any where i decided id try and see if i could figure it out. Here is what I cam up with for my 87(s4) TII

let me know if there is something wrong on there I thought i got it all right.

Not sure about #13 on your FEM-01 list.

87 and 88 (the later harnesses without a resister pack) have slightly different wire colors. I have an 87 (with injector resistor pack) and 88 (without resistor pack) harness and I can tell you that there are a few minor differences in wire colors. I'm trying to remember if these differences include the two big connectors in question or not.

The FSM diagrams also label the big connectors differently. On the '87 T2 harness diagrams I believe the connector is called X-01 and X-02 or something like that. The main set of diagrams floating around are for the 88, which doesn't have a resistor box. Only a few people on this site have the '87 wiring diagrams. I think HAILERS might.

The below is from the 86-87 FSM for RX7.

They called them X-15 and X-16 instead of FEM-01 or FEM-02 at that time.

The plugs shown are for both Turbo and non turbo and the difference is shown by the parenthesis placed around a wire color {example: (Lg/B) is for turbo only}. But you can see that already noted on the jpgs attached.

I made a list of what each wires function is...........once upon a time and that list is gone. I more or less can figure out what is what in a short period of time. Like all the wiper wires in X-15 crammed in the left side of the plug (looking at the Front harness side of the plug that is).

And the BrB in my jpgs are equiv to the pure B shown in the 88 manual. Brown and Black (BrB).

And you can look at the jpgs I attached and figure out what happens if you use a TURBO EM harness and mate it with a NON TURBO FRONT harness by looking at the (**), if you get my drift.

This is not exactly what the original poster asked. But might help a bit. His seems to be a well thought out list. I didn't/hav'nt done a double check and don't know if I will or not. And even if I did I could make a mistake.

Number 5 in FEM-01 is just stated a bit wrong imho.

The Brown/Red in the EM side of the plug should be stated as TO the boost sensor, not FROM the boost sensor. The boost sensor feeds the gauge and the ECU (on another Br/R wire not in the FEM-01 or FEM-02).

I'm sure in the FEM-01 that you got 11 and 13 right. The 87 wiring diagrams show the wiper motor color as pure black and the boost gauge ground wire as Br/B. I've no idea how looking at a 88 diagram how you could tell which is which if they are shown both as B. The 87 wiring diagram clears up which is which. Make sense? yes

HAILERS2 02-03-11 06:06 AM

FEM-02 number 10............correct me if I'm wrong. That wire is from the start signal wire TO the ECU pin 3D on automatic cars to jack up the idle. The BR comes from the start circuit to the ECU and also to the circuit opening relay to pull it in. 3D is used just on autos I believe.

HAILERS2 02-03-11 06:52 AM

The B/R in the above post.............I wrote it as BR instead of B/R. Can't correct that post since it's too late.

The B/R can be confusing. Almost always related to the sub zero system. One of the B/R in the FEM-01 is not going to the ECU but is passing the signal from the sensor in the oil pan on to the sub zero start motor which is located on the EM harness. Make sense? Yes.

There's another B/R in the FEM-01 I have not worked out just yet. I don't think there is a B/R that is a OUTPUT from the ECU. I think all B/R are inputs TO the ECU. Correct me if I'm wrong.

HAILERS2 02-03-11 07:06 AM

Page 50-34 of the 88 wiring manual called FUEL PUMP AND SUB ZERO SYSTEM is a little lacking in that you have to do a little hunting to know the ECU is not powering the subzero motor (left side of that page shows B/W coming from EMISSIONS CONTROL UNIT) which is misleading. The B/W is actually coming from the Starter Cut Relay and that is what is feeding a batt signal to the sub zero motor and ALSO to the ECU on it's pin 3B.

This means the B/R wire shown in the EM half of FEM-01 mating with the B/W in the F half of FEM-01 is ..........what? the start signal going from the B/W to feed the subzero motor. Something like that.

What ever your up to, make SURE the pin 3B on the ECU gets the start signal when the key is HELD to START. That's IF your using the stk ECU and not some aftermarket thing.

The B/R signals run me ragged when trying to figure out what is what.

Hey thanks all your comments make sense I didnt know there was a difference in the harnesses between years with colours I just used the FSM I had to the best of my knowledge thanks so much for helping me get this straightened out

barnett87rx7 02-03-11 11:36 AM

so for corrections Fem 01 should read
5 - to boost sensor
FEM-02
10 - start signal wire TO the ECU

and not sure about the B/R of the FEM 01 and 02

HAILERS2 02-03-11 04:40 PM

I must have written something wrong.

Number 5 is FROM boost sensor TO boost gauge.

The wire in number 5 of FEM-01 is a B/R or BLACK/RED wire.

Number 10 of FEM-02 is a ground wire from the afm. Goes TO the Circuit Opening Relay, FROM the afm, to pull in the circuit opening relay, when the vane in the afm is moved aft at least a 1/8" or so. Keeps the fuel pump running once the engine is running.

The wire in number 10 is a BR or BROWN wire.

I must have been on drugs or worse when I wrote earlier today. I just double checked what I just now wrote and it's right.....I hope.

The difference in colours b/t the 88 manual and the 86-88 are mostly minor. Like the ground wires on the whole in the 88 manual are black whereas in the 87 manual they are brown/black.

HAILERS2 02-03-11 04:56 PM

The number 15 in FEM-01 is power TO the wiper motor from the wiper fuse. Its colour is L.

HAILERS2 02-03-11 05:04 PM

I'd ignore my posts prior to post number 11 just above.

HAILERS2 02-03-11 05:16 PM

I think number 3 in the FEM-02 is incorrect.

On a TURBO car that BR is a output from the ECU to the Fuel Pump Relay and Resistor. It would be a ground signal out from the ECU whenever the ECU reads a load condition. It causes the fuel pump operate at full batt voltage instead of approx 9vdc.

This Fuel Pump Relay and Resistor do not exist on the non turbo cars. Sooooo if one puts a turbo EM harness on a non turbo cars front harness.......things don't work out quite right.

Are you doing a swap from non turbo to turbo??????

HAILERS2 02-03-11 05:23 PM

Number 3 in FEM-02 on a NON TURBO car is a input from the INHIBITOR SWITCH to the NON TURBOS ECU pin 3D to let it know your starting the non turbo automatic car. The inhibitor switch in a non turbo car puts a gnd on that BR wire that goes to the non turbo's pin 3D on the ECU.

So you can see there's a difference b/t non turbo wiring and turbo wiring in just a couple of places.

This was for my TII I did this when I installed a megasquirt I used the injector power and i needed to know wiper motor and cruise control
