S4 shortblock S5 block.

Is the S5 short block the same as a S4 shortblock? Im sure it has been covered but all i could find were turbo threads. my S4 motor is shot and I was wanting to know if the S5 block would work with the S4's accessories and fuel system etc. Will the S4 omp hook up? Is it a straight swap? :dunno: (puts on flame suit)

Yes there are differences, but yes you can run a S5 block with S4 accessories just fine.

Take the time to search again and see if there are any minute changes that need to be made.

you'll want to use your s4 front cover because of the OMP. or just block it off and premix. everything else should swap over.

okay so if I got a S5 long block would that be a straight swap? or are their electronic issues?

No, that would present many more problems that you want. Use an S5 short block w/ S4 front cover. You can also use S5 manifolds and fuel rails if you want to get the added bonus of the S5 VDI system. But you would need to rig a triggering method.

The only issue with using an S4 LIM on an S5 block is with emissions. The port air paths don't match up, so you won't be able to pass a smog test if you use S4 manifolds. Of course, if your state doesn't require testing, you're fine using it.
