S4 charging system......

so here is the deal i installed a JDM S5 turbo into a S4 non turbo chassis. I have done a lot of work to be able to make this beast go, such as tearing the rotary down to a shortblock and converting to S4 outside componets to get rid of the s5 stuff. well i know that the s5 alternator can be used in this vehicle but dont know exactly what i have to do to make it work. Has anybody ever retorfitted an S5 alternator into an S4 chassis and if so what all do i need to do to make it work?

also are the alternator wires intergarted into the body harness that contains the wires for the battery, starter, oil pan fluid level, overdrive switch, safety nuetral switch?

In an S4, the alternator wiring is in with the engine harness. Which is probably now gone...

You will have to re-wire it.

NO i am using an NA S4 harness, so it should still be there, how many wire will there be, 3 if my memory serves me correctly, one big one that goes to the postive side of battery and has a bolt style connector and the other 2 are like 14-16 gauge wire that have the "specail" plug that would plug right into an S4 alternator. so what rewiring do i need to do?

I think you just answered your own question!

If you've still retained the stock wiring you won't have to do anything except get an s5 type alt plug and splice the wires to the s4 wiring for the alt.

Very simple, just use an FSM. :bigthumb:

Not really. The series five alt NEEDS to see 12vdc 24/7 or it'll discharge over a period of several days. The WHITE/BLACK wire will still go to the alternator BUT the BLACK/WHITE will not be used anymore.

In lieu of the White/Black you have to run a NEW wire from the engine bay fuse box to the alternator. You do that so it will be FUSED for safety reasons.

So a search for alternator and NZCONVERTIBLE or go the other FC3S site and I think they have a sticky in the first few threads that deal with this series five alt into to a series four. DONE

so can any one confirm that the alternator wires are in the engine harness on an s4? i cant seem to find them, where abouts are they along the harness, i swear they have to be there it is intact harness but i just cant find them. Pics would be nice, and i am talking about like somebody popping their hood and taking pics of their s4 engine and revealing the alternator wires and how they look in color size and etc. Please and thanks.

Sounds to me like you have a turbo EM harness connected to the engine. No alternator plug on that harness. It's just a two socket plug with the colored wires I mentioned in my earlier post.

The LARGE output wire is on the ENGINE harness that runs along the left side of the engine bay. The one with the starter wires/engine fuse box wires etc.
