S-AFC Question ?????

About S-afc. I disconnected the ground wire and connected S-afc to the ECU by following the directions from Apexi manual. After putting everything back together, i set it up the way i thought it was good, i went for the test drive everything was fine. I came back and now my Alternator is burned. How is that possible? My volts gauge showed around 6-8 volts. Can this be s-afc Related or is this some other problem??
Also my idiot lights don't work when i turn the ignition, all of them are sopose to light up, but only the ones that are on, like break or doors light up. Please reply. This is on 88 T2

What do you mean you disconnected the ground wire? Do you mean the battery cable? Did you put it back on?

HAILERS

Hailors... Do u know of anything in the egi box of wires that when crossed with one of the apexi wires might interfere with the alternator.

Just curious, did you work with anything else on the car, like under the hood.

Hailers is dumb as a rock today. I can't think of why. There are fuses to protect the system and keep this from happening. About the idiot lites not lighting, go look at your fuses near your left foot. In particular, look at the 7.5 amp fuse that is on the third row from the bottom, third one from your left as you look into the fuse box.
There is a relay in the CPU, that is pulled in by the altenator. But b/t the altenator and the CPU, is that 7.5 amp fuse, which if blown, will not allow the idiot lites to come on. When that relay is made, it puts a ground signal on the idiot light cluster on a yellow wire with a blue stripe.
You might ask Irv or SixRotors or Icemark about your problem. They'd have a clue.
As you can see, the idiot lites lighting up when the key is initialy turned on, is related to the altenator. Fix the altenator will probably fix the *no idiot lights* problem, but look at the third row from the bottom, third fuse over for being good or bad.

s-afc

i disconnected the grond wire on the batter when i was installing the s-afc and of course i reconnected it. When i try to start the car it crankes really slow, so i'm assuming it's either a battery or a alternator. When i jump started it. It worked fine for some time and then again it trained the battery.
So it deffinetely is alternator. I disconnected the s-afc now, and i'll reconnect it again after i change the alternator, I just want to know if it's possible that i maybe burned the alternator and the idiot lights when i was connecting s-afc. I didn't do anything else under the hood or anything accept taking the ground cable off before installation and putting it back on after.

I think its doutful that the safc did in the altenator. When you reconnected the battery neg terminal, and then tried starting the car, is that when it started to crank slowly???????? Or sometime after:????? I keep forgeting the turbo has no voltmeter like a n/a. Sure comes in handy.

i have an aftermarket volts gauge, as i said after i came back from the test drive, then it showed around 6-8 volts and the ilumination lights were dimmed kind of all the way and when i shut it down, started to crank slowely. I really don't konw what the problem was, but i'll try to change the fuse if it's blown, and i'll check the batery and alternator.

HAILERS 02-02-02 02:07 PM

Oh, I see you had a aftermarket Volt gauge. Yes it does seem like the altenator. A touch hard to believe the safc did it in. You might check and see it the feed wire from the altenator has continuity from the altenator to the battery. Is the small plug still on? You probably already looked.
Hey! Can you give us the wire colors etc on the ECU that you tapped into on the ECU????????? That might give us a clue. Which plugs and which wires, like green wire with a red stripe etc.

S-afc

i fixed the problem, i don't know how, but i changed my alternator, hooked the s-afc all over again, and it looks like everything works fine.
Now my only problem is how to set it up.

I have intake, Exhaust, mid pipe, with stock downpipe, Fd fuel pump and i think the rest is stock. Does anybody know how should i set it up?

High throtle?
Low throthle
Throtle possition
and the rest??

First of all I dont think you should copy someone elses tune...
Second go put it on a dyno or use the a/f gauge to make sure u dont run lean. Buy ya. When I had it I copied someones tuned afc down but im N/A.

Rotary Rx7 T2 02-02-02 05:57 PM

I got that a/f gauge i never went to dyno, i set it up myself somehow and it seems to work fine, but i'm affraid to get it up to the redline 7000rpm. I changed a lot of settings after each test drive and once i couldn't even start it. if anyone could just tell me what am i sopose to put on high throtle and low and that would be great.
