s-afc on an n/a?
i was wondering if it would be worthwhile to put an safc on a non turbo or would the gains be so minimal that it would just be a waste of time. i have one already and was thinking maybe id try to sell it. what do you think.

you can probably squeeze 10-15hp out of it on a dyno with the afc.

Stock full-load mixtures are very rich, which hurts power. Leaning them out gains some power back.

Yep. It's not unheard of to gain 10HP or more as long as the rest of the engine (intake, exhaust) is upgraded as well...

Basically yall are saying if a S-AFC were used the power increase would be how do I say "crap".

Solid gains through the whole rev range (plus better milage) is crap? What were you expecting? It's only mixtures. :confused:
The more modified an engine is, the further from ideal the stock fuel maps become. Thus the more modified an engine is the bigger the gains will be from tuning with a fuel controller. |
Won't I have to get a tps that reads the full range of the throttle if I should buy a safc??????
Or put another way....wouldn't it be best if say I have a series four, to fabricate a bracket so that I can install a full range tps???? So that the safc will see the real full range of the throttle instead of rigging the safc up to the pressure sensor or the like? |
Good idea, but you'd need the whole S5 TB, because you need the proper cams on the TB linkage to actuate the two TPS's. But then you lose the OMP linkage, so that's no good for some people.

Pretty much all modern TPS's are full-range.

not to jack no thread or nothing, but i am probably going to get an s-afc for my n/a but i was wondering, if i tune it now, will it still have the fuel map loaded when i swap this motor (harness and all) into a first gen?

No. The SAFC is what they call a *interceptor*. The values are not kept in the ECU, they are kept/retained in the SAFC. The SAFC needs to be installed in the first gen also. |
I have before after dyno results with my S-AFC on my car no streetport just lots of bolt ons. Got 8 RWP. Definaatly worth it although I didnt notice much it was still 8 rwp

So I thought that this morning I would have to reset all the settings again. NOPE. Just plugged it in and all the values were still there. I'm probably the last to know that they are kept in the SAFC. Just FYI. I might even try to read and understand the booklet that came with it.....someday. |
