Rx7 Idle problems!!

hey guys my car occasionaly idles at around 600 then dips down to bout 500 then goes back up... and on take off the throttle response is slow.. i put my foot down and the car doesnt take off as fast as it should.. i can flat foot off take off and it will still just take off slow.. any ideas?

Flooring the accelerator pedal from idle is going to accel slower then pressing the accel pedal fast enough to keep up with the load power requirements.

The big issues is the 2ndary throttle plates opening to early. To bad they don't open when the load requires them to open.

For the idle issues, sounds to me like the idle, obveiously, is to low for the TPS setting. Try rasing the idle with the idle screw on the top of the TB (N/A) or on the BACV (Turbo). Then use a multimeter and set the TPS.

The engine is not designed to idle steady at real low rpms like that so the engine's rpms may lower and raise. You may see the engine idle steady at 600 or even 500. When I first put my motor in, I had it idle pretty steady at 450-500rpm. Best sounding exhaust I have ever heard. :icon_tup:

setting the idle between 750-1000 is a good spot.

maybe my volt meter is off, but whenever my idle is set under 750 my volts are slightly lower. so maybe the car is not charging the way it should be if its under 750.

if you dump the clutch and floor the accelerator its going to buck at you and slow you down.

Below 1000 is better. 900-950 is as high as I would go since the ECU advances timing at around 1100rpm. So 1000 is a little close for me.

at idle your volts should never go below 13.0 volts. Take a volt meter to your battery to make sure where your volts are at. Also make sure your wires are clean and replacing the B post wire with a larger one may not be a bad idea.

What alt do you have and do you have and what size pulley do you have.

Most alternators do not charge at their full capacity during idle. So you may have a 100amp alt, but you will never get 100amps out of the alt at idle.
