Rx7 Fc best short shifter?
 

Hello! Just bought an '88 Rx7 FC (non-turbo) 5 spd. I currently have the stock transmission and shifter. What is the best short shifter for it? Preferrably under 200$...

For just around $200 you can get the mazdatrix short shifter. It's considered among the best and it's super easy to install. Got one myself, my friend said he's jealous his WRX's short shifter doesn't feel that tight.

+1 for the Mazdatrix short shifter. It has a very solid, bolt action rifle-like feel to it. Some folks might find the shifter action a little too tight, but I like it.

I have an eBay Miata short shifter, cut down so the shaft is even shorter (which does not affect the throw) and run a very heavy Nismo knob (a heavy knob is key to any short shifter).
Honestly, the real trick to these things is getting the bushings right, which usually involves shimming them. In my case, the bottom bushing was not making good contact with the pivot ball and needed to raise up a bit.
I used gaskets from the Ace plumbing dept. which matched the id and od of the plastic bush until the shifter ball was nicely seated and the three retaining bolts could be fully tightened without the shifter binding.

The action is firm and positive and the throw is absurdly short, but I got used to it immediately.
The whole thing cost less than $40, not counting the Nismo knob, which I already had. I think they go for @$40 too, but you still save about half compared to the Mazdatrix kit.

Absolutely the best would be: Mazdaspeed or C Short shifter, but they are sold out , and finding them is rare.
