RX-8 stat gears in 13BT

Anyone used RX-8 stationary gears when building new engine for FC? Mazdatrix claims it fits all 13B's, rear is multiwindow/hardened and priced about same like stock FC one. Is it considered to be upgrade? Any other internal parts of 8 good to use when building new engine ?

I'm actually curious about this myself since I'm in the process of a build I was planning on using racing beat type 1 stat gears in and the rx8 ones are cheaper overall.

I've heard some rumors about parts not being interchangeable, but they are rumors, i'm interested in this too, hoprfully someone can shed some light on this subject

Maybe an email to mazdatrix could clear up a few things.

Bringing this back to life...

I emailed Mazdatrix about this and asked them how it compares to the TypeI stat gears by racing beat, this is what they had to say.

"We use the RX8 gears in some of our race engines. RB gears get an oil groove
cut it them, hardened, then 3-window bearing pressed in. The RX8 ones come
from Japan hardened. The bearing in them is a "multi-window" (more than 3)
with the groove behind it already there.."

I want!

Wankel7 06-27-05 01:59 PM

Anybody got a mazda part number on it?

ddub 06-27-05 02:48 PM

Yep these are what I'm going to run in my engine, cheaper than the TypeI RB stat gears!! Woo! ^_^

Part numbers from Mazdatrix are:
Front - 10-E04B-N3H3
Rear - 10-E1YB-N3H3

I beleive guitarjunkie would know, as he has torn several renesis motors down.

We already know it will work, Mazdatrix confirmed this, its a go!

I'm in. Sweet!

How about the rest of the rotor assembly "midle of rotor"

It's already been proven (and used) that the Renesis rotors will drop in. There's nothing special about them, I believe they have an even higher compression ratio.. or is it lighter weight?

Either way, I remember from a thread a bit back, that there wasn't a definate advatange to running the renesis rotors..

now, side-port exhaust... Daddy wants :)

ddub 06-28-05 12:22 AM

Lighter AND higher compression. They are 10:1 compression whereas the highest any of the previous stock 13b's got was 9.7:1

WonkoTheSane 06-28-05 12:30 AM

Thanks for the clarification, dDuB!

LOL I was scrolling down to type this and you did it right beneath your post.

Does anyone have a proven method to say water cuting the rotors down for lower compresion?

I don't know about the whol side port exhaust yet. I mean it seems good. Some of the speculation on the renesis not producing as high or heavaly moded numbers as the 7s is the exhaust ports. My personaly theories are the ECU and individual coil packs. Not having a EMS to properly control the new setup.

Now if they are so the same why do they use different spark plugs now? And around 25$ a pice it's rediculas. I don't know yet looking into it as of today but why cant we run previus rotary plugs?

Why would you want to lower compression exactly? You can just get TII rotors for lower compression.

Sideport exhaust is way more efficient, clean burning, and easier on the apex seals. Mazda OVERRATED the rx8 in the beginning due to the JDM ECU flash, the US ECU flash is different because of the different regulations for certain things. Thus Mazda retracted its previous ratings and changed it for US cars. Also, they rated it at the flywheel, and anyone that says the loss through the drivetrain is only 15% is crazy, it's closer to 20-25% which is exactly what the rx8 is putting down on a dyno in stock form compared to the stock hp ratings at the flywheel. And tell me this, how many n/a peripheral port stock 13b's in the past put down 180+ rwhp? None...

The rotors are slightly different with some cuts in the sides of them, but they will fit in the engine. I thought you had to do some slight modifying, from what I remember reading, or actually swapping some internal piece. I can't honestly remember, but there's a few things that need to be done to drop them into an older 13b engine.

I want to lower compression to put them in the miata project motor. I was under the impresion they would not even work so I was not considering the idea till now.

As well lower them to turbo the 8

jacobcartmill 06-28-05 01:40 AM

mazdatrix used rx8 10:1 rotors in a earlier 13b and said they made more power with the 9.7 rotors.

Got a link? I thought the power was just negligible.

p4nc7 06-28-05 12:01 PM

I thought they said they made more power with a boosted 13b with 10:1 rotors than with 9.7s...0.o.
