RX-7's spark plug

What is the size of the spark plug in a RX-7 because I have a spark plug socket but I dont know if it is the right size. Please tell me the size in inches or centimetres.

Black13B 05-17-03 04:14 PM

dont use anything except:

NGK - BUR7EQ - Leads
NGK - BUR9EQ - Trails

if you use something with the regular general canadian-tire oldschool style electrode, you risk it meeting an apex seal..

Black13B 05-17-03 04:14 PM

oh wait.. you mean how big are the plugs to remove or install?

5/8s works perfectly for me.. but i wouldnt be surprised if it was meant for a metric equivalent

The_Wheelman 05-17-03 04:45 PM

What I am saying is what would the size of a socket have to be to fit around the sparkplug?

silverrotor 05-17-03 04:48 PM

I use a 21mm socket.

The_Wheelman 05-17-03 04:54 PM

Its 21mm? Damn because this spark plug socket is 16mm. Try a 16mm, and tell me if it will work.

Cory Simpson 05-17-03 05:33 PM

21mm has a little to much play in it for me.

There are two different sizes of spark plug sockets, one is 5/8, and the other is 13/16, and the difference between a normal deep well and a spark plug socket is that a spark plug socket has a rubber donut in the end of it that holds the spark plug so you don't drop it in your engine. And the 13/16 fits the best, and that is on an NGK spark plug, and that should be what every spark plug that fits into an RX-7 should take. There are only 2 different sizes of spark plugs that I have ever seen and that is 5/8, and 13/16.

Cory Simpson 05-17-03 05:34 PM

Ohh yes, and 16mm won't work either.

silverrotor 05-17-03 05:53 PM

I use a 21mm b'c thats all I have deep enough near that size. Sure their a little play when tightening It but don't overly concern myself due to the little torque needed to tighten them to begin with.

Note- I'm not or am Implying I'm a hacked mechanic.:D

Cory Simpson 05-17-03 05:59 PM

Jesus now that is cheap:D it is only like 2 bucks for a spark plug socket. :hah:

The_Wheelman 05-17-03 07:56 PM

If 5/8 fits than 16mm will fit... Its the same.

Black13B 05-17-03 07:57 PM

5/8s works fine for me..

Cory Simpson 05-17-03 08:06 PM

How does 5/8's fit your's  Mine will only take a 13/16, does NGK make different size spark plugs??? It seems like the would all have to be the same size, to seal around the hole in the rotor housing.

Cory Simpson 05-17-03 08:07 PM

No there is just a cunt hair difference in size :D, but it will probably still fit, I haven't tryed.
