Is this RX-7 Turbo II worth grabbing?

I live really close to this acution and I love the look of the car. He said in an email to me that the seal is cracked in the engine and it's not getting good compression. Should I get the car and try to rebuild the engine? I'm not really "savy" in auto, but my dad is. With it sitting for 2 years what kind of problems should I expect? I kinda need to know soon. Thanks Matt |
Anybody got an opinion?

If it were me, I'd go check out the paint. If the paint's cherry, then I'd hop on it. But I'd feel comfortable building my own engine. If you're not, be prepared to dump an extra $1500 for a rebuild.

Cracked seal usually means broken motor, and to fix that, you need a rebuild, which can be very costly. Not to mention the problems of an 80s car that has been sitting for a while. Who knows what else is wrong with it. Rebuilding yourself probably isnt a good idea if you're not mechanically inclined, and dont have the proper tools.

lol, there is someone on this forum who wants it.;)

My guess is that it would just be best to replace the engine instead of rebuilding. I appreciate the help. I'm thinking about other options right now. Thanks |

I would get it, an engine is only $1200 or you could do it yourself. Then you would have a kick ass ride, check the paint if your that close. Looks good from here...

How much money... if I did rebuild myself.... do you think the rebuild would cost?
Just guess about how much rebuilding an engine that has sat for 2 years would cost. Thanks guys |

It cost me $2200 for the engine not including labor.

Why $1200 for a used jspec (i.e. junk spec) when you can get a fresh rebuild starting at $1200?
|
interior is clean. I say get it then have Kevin rebuild whats left of the engine and you should have a great car
