First off what kind of RX-7. Turbo or n/a, 86-88 or 89-91. Convertible or coupe.

err

He doesnt know yet, he's new to rx7 stuff and hes seen a few and think they look real nice and thinks the rotary is a cool idea. Just give him some links and stuff to show him on his way

Honestly at 17, im looking for the cheapest kind but will last me about a year or 2, and that can beat a stock auto mustang in a race =[. Convertible or Coupe Preferable Coupe i beleive, and i really dont know the difference between the turbo, or the n/a

Well, Turbo is a forced induction car, and an N/A is Naturally Aspirated. As basically as I can put it, the turbo is basically a fan, that is spun up by exhaust gasses (hence the delay) once its spun up, it forces outside air down the intake in order to force more air/fuel into the combustion chamber (more hps). Obviously its more complicated then that, but thats the basics. N/A cars just ingest air naturally, resulting in a lower compression ratio and less H.P.s. Turbo cars are great since they develop more power, but with more systems on a motor comes more things that can break. Turbos tend to be a little less reliable (I am gonna get flamed for that)..

If you want cheap, get an 86-88 base. There are tons of them around, I have 2 of them myself. I paid $700 for my 2+2 and $1300 for my Base.

uh..this is the 2nd post ive seen that says NA's have lower compression. They DONT. The 88's have a 9.4:1 and the 89's have a 9.7:1. The TIIs have 8.0:1 and 9.0:1 for the 89's.

Yes, the turbo DOES increase the displacement of the motor depending on the amount of boost, but if the turbo engine lacked the turbo, it would get the shit kicked out of it by an NA block. Yes turbos are less reliable becuase they add force and stress on internal parts, especially the apex seals. The turbo engines will seem to have a sudden 'burst' of power once it spools up, which is around..what..4k rpm on the stock turbo?

You are right..The compression ratios for the N/A are higher. HOWEVER the volume of air compressed by a TII motor at full tilt is more then the volume compressed by an N/A. Hence the running compression of a TII is higher. But in essence your right, the ratios for the TII is lower....I should have been more specific, thanks for the correction.
