Running too rich?
 

ok i got this 1991 rx7 that i need help with. The problem is the car is running super rich, so rich that it will shoot flames out the exhaust by just pressing the gas pedal. Also if you try to floor the gas pedal the car would bog immensely and wont go anywhere, but if you lightly tap the gas it would build revs. you can smell the gas coming out and a ton of smoke. Things we tried: Replaced MAF, checked for vacuum leaks, checked injectors one has a crack on the housing but will replace soon, thats about it. I know there is a check engine lights thats on but the dummy lights work when they want to so i cant run the codes. Is there a way to check the codes besides counting the check engine light flashes? besides using a diagnostic computer? The video shows in the beginning i'm flooring it and revs wont go nowhere, it just bogs, than you can see the revs go up when i'm tapping the gas, sorry no sound.:wallbash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UTQ_S4IdtQ

have you checked the timing?

My 1st RX7 was a '91 N/A - white. The exhaust would turn the rear bumper black! I replaced the O2 sensor and the problem went away. That might not be all of your trouble, but it might help. If you're really brave (and desperate) to resolve an over-rich situation, try adjusting the variable resistor. Word of caution: before you do, mark its original position so you'll know where you started.

Running too rich, air pump isn't delivering air to the exhaust or timing is retarded way too much.

timing is good
tomorrow ima check compression but i dont think its that...because today we pinched the fuel line because the engine was flooded then let it run with the line pinched and a crazy thing happened I GOT ALOT MORE ACCELERATION...any ideas?:Wconfused
