Running rich... did sealing up vacuum leaks cause this?
 

I've got an '85 SE but i know this section knows more about efi... i posted in the 1st gen section but no one has even viewed it. Here is what i posted

"i did some work on my blocker plate, sealed it up good with jb weld. I unhooked the battery for a little over 10 minutes and hooked it back up, i let it run for a while and idle... then i take it out and let off the gas, as soon as i hit it again a huge fireball shoots out my exhaust and it backfires louder than a 12 gauge... i don't get what's up with this."

It's everytime i let off the gas and hit it again that it backfires like that, so i know for a fact it's running rich as hell.

Yes, but this just started today, all i did was seal up my blocker plate with jb weld... i broke off all the bolts but one so it was a last resort, my air fuel ratio gauge is showing it's running completely rich (according to the gauge), when i let off the gas it only goes one light down... as soon as i tap the gas a huge explosion happens and fire lights up the area around my car. I'm going to try getting new plugs and seeing if that helps.

afr guages will read rich when your a/f ratio is at 14:1. Dont go by that unless it is a wide band sensor (like $1000 bux).

Might want to get a nice set of easy outs for those broken studs. Hells I break those studs all the time and they come right out with easy outs.

It sounds like your air flow meter is actually measuring air now whereas before it was measuring a lot less, therefore injecting less fuel accomodated by air engering engine unmeetered which even lessened the mixture. Sounds like your car might be running better. Is it faster?

If you car is "Blowing up everywhere" when you touch the gas..... hmm. OK then maybe its not running right.

Yeah, it's definately not running right, that gauge has always been acurate... the only time it wasn't was when my O2 wire melted to my header and was grounding itself out, that gauge comes in very handy, it has to be running rich, there's no other explaination for 10ft flames shooting out my tailpipe. The explosions hurt my ears from inside the car, i just can't figure out why the ecu isn't adjusting... is the AFM bad? i hope not, i'll never be able to find another gsl-se AFM.
